3rd shift being added at LGR to meet 2016 Camaro demand!

Update: General Motors in Lansing is celebrating big tonight as the auto-maker announced its adding a third shift and 500 jobs to its assembly line.

The move is in response to meeting the market demand for the award-winning 2016 Chevrolet Camaro.

“Its more jobs you’re fully utilizing the plant the more you utilize the plant you’re going in the right direction you’re making money because you’re working 24 hours,” said UAW Local 652 President Mike Green.

The new shift will increase the plant’s workforce to 2,300 jobs when hiring is completed.

“It’s good for the Lansing area; it’s good for the state putting people to work everything going in the right direction, ” said Green.

Lansing General Motors Plant Manager Mike Trevorrow says the Chevy Camaro is a big reason for the added shift.

“For General Motors it means the 6th generation Camaro has been well received and we need to increase capacity at the plant.”

The shift not only benefits Michigan families but also Michigan’s economy.

“If you look at how the trickle-down effect takes place in these plants for us the 500 we hire also means our suppliers have to get us new parts which is good news for Lansing community,” said Trevorrow.

General Motors is shifting production of the Camaro into overdrive.

The company announced today that it’s adding a third shift at the Lansing Grand River plant to meet the expected demand.

That will create more than 500 jobs.

“This is the result of the award-winning vehicles Lansing Grand River produces and the confidence GM has in our team to build world-class quality for our customers,” said Lansing Regional Plant Manager Mike Trevorrow in a press release.

“This is an exciting time at LGR,” said UAW Local 652 President Mike Green in the same release. “We just added the Chevrolet Camaro to our vehicle line up and now we get to expand the UAW-GM family, which will bring the plant to full capacity. What a great way to start the new year!”

The company says hiring is already underway, and that the new shift will begin some time in April, May, or June.

That will bring the total number of workers at the plant to around 2,300.

GM shifted production of the 6th generation Camaro to Lansing last year. The first cars were unveiled in May and started rolling off the line and into dealer lots in November.

The new Camaro was also named the 2016 Motor Trend Car of the Year.

This new platform is going to really help GM regain ground. The challenge is whichcar to buy? The Camaro, The ATS-V or the CTS? Decisions, decisions.

I love Cadillac, own a SRX and will be probably get a XT5 in a couple of years, but Camaro is much nicer than the ATS-V, nice car, but not a V8 LT1, and I actually like the Camaro interior better.

Has anyone seen TV ads for the new camaro yet? I haven't but I'm not a big TV watcher. Maybe they were ramping up production slowly to catch as many bugs as possible, and now they're going to start "mass" production.

Good news, definitely.

(Just don't let 3rd shift build mine. lol.)
