Corrosion? WUT?!

Anyone else seeing this? It’s a 2012, not a 2002!

This is the impact bar under front bumper

That's a very odd spot to have rust

looks like radiator fluid or something was spilled and left trail too rust? you can sort of see a shadow of it.

How does radiator fluid get there?

Take it off, beed blast it to confirm its just topical, put on rust treatment, paint it. Not a beauty item so just what it needs. Mine had a little rust but it was topical (my car was in Missouri before I bought it).

Beed blasting will make sure it’s ok OR, get a new one:

Last one in the list above (jc) is aluminum!

Salt damage? Parked in tall grass all year damage?

Not normal, either way.

New England and no coolant leaks. Also garaged. It is odd and it in spots where bumper cover rests and presumably traps water.

Moisture and / or salt in the air then. Yes, it's a thing. As an intermediary measure, consider installing a dehumidifier in your garage until you sort this out permanently.

The problem is that this vehicle isn't what it appears: it's a Holden on a Zeta platform, designed by Australians, and they don't have much snow there, except in the mountains to the East. Consequently, the chassis had only been galvanized, not rust treated.

In your case, I'd blast those spots with a sand blaster and baking soda, thoroughly wash the under body and have it professionally sprayed with that tar-looking anti-rust treatment. At least half a finger thick.

I'm thinking of having the same thing done before I start getting any rust spots. Any time I've driven in rain or even dry salted roads, I've had the under body washed within a day. Galvanization alone is not enough to protect the chassis, unfortunately.

The only thing Holden is the chassis, and that's only on paper. The chassis and car was built in Canada, and the current model is built in Lansing.

You have to expect this, especially if you drive the car in wet weather or in salt treated roads. I usually go for undercoating, especially with new cars. I skipped it for my ZL1 because it will never see continuous wet weather, and it will never see snow or salt treated roads. My other cars are undercoated, and all of them have done well in resisting corrosion.

I'm in Massachusetts. I don't hesitate to drive in the rain, but I put my 2010 SS away during the salt season, typically from Nov 1 to April 15. The chassis is completely rust-free.

What is the history of your car? The corrosion damage does not look "normal".

I agree. maybe the coating was removed by another solvent.. brake\power steering fluid maybe. even a little of that can start a big problem over time.

Have it since new, bought late 2011 but its a 2012.
Rust is just to the impact bar not the chassis.
