That four inches difference in width could be very significant.

Especially when you consider that there were rumors the Alpha platform originally wasn't designed to accommodate an engine the size of a V8.

How wide is the Twin Turbo 6 in the ATS-V?

Not sure how wide the LF4 is, but it is a 60 degree V as opposed to the 90 degree V of the V8's. That would make it narrower, BUT there is also additional plumbing that goes from the turbo up over the heads to the intake manifold.

I never recalled hearing that alpha was not originally designed for a V8.

It was very very early in the development, and only a rumor...that it was going to be designed for Cadillacs and V6s only. Which didn't make very much sense then, as a V6 is just as big as an 8, if not larger in some respects.

But the point I brought it up to make, was simply that the architecture is compact. A tight fit. The C7's 7-speed manual didn't fit in the tunnel, as an example.

I think that was a rumor that "the pill" started. It wouldn't make sense for the Alpha chassis to not be designed for a V8, since the Camaro was planned to be on that platform from the beginning, AND the Cadillac was going to have a V8 anyway (CTS-V).

I found the LSA CTS-V engine dimensions which are 26.57" width (across heads) and 29.13" length
Nice find, and for your info there is lots of room to fit that in the car, there is 5+" per side on the LT1 to strut tower, and all you will need is to remount the over flow tank.
