Post Window trim detail suggestions

Looking for suggestions on how get rid of this crap on the window moldings. (see pics) Any one dealt with this before?
So far I've clay bared the molding and then tried Meguiars ultimate black plastic restorer & it hasn't helped much. Didn't find much on youtube for over the shelf products to help. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

It's a fungus, I used Clorox on mine and got most of it, BUT i would not recommend it.

i would try Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. try a small area... put down tape near your car paint so you don't scuff the paint. these pads are actually do super light sanding... but are amazing.

Glad you mentioned this as I was planning on just replacing the plastic, but I'm going to try the cleaning products first

50/50 mix of bleach and water. Put Adams VRT on it once you get the crap off.

I would either try a Mr. Clean eraser or some Simple Green to clean it off. If that doesn't work, I would try a trim restorer like ArmarAll's OutLast. Once you get it cleaned up, I'd wipe the trim down with Trinova UV Protectant or other protectant. I've used Trinova for a couple of years now and keeps all the trim looking like new. You can find it on Amazon ....

Do you mind updating us if with your results? No pics necessary, just your opinion would be fine. I'm curious if a magic eraser works well, seems like it may. The last time I restored the trim on a vehicle, I ended up sanding it with fine sandpaper, it got rid of the fungus but was obviously not as smooth as it was before.

I have hard plastic for a rub rail on my boat that looked like that. It made it look really bad. I dont know if you want to try it on a car but nothing would take it off. Black to black or any cleaning product. If you are going to replace it anyway give it a try. I used lacquer thinner on a rag. I think it might have melted the surface a bit but it came out like new. I do it about every 4 years and it does not change the texture at it at all.

Someone on a Tacoma forum had good luck with convertible top cleaner. Haven't tried it myself but it may also be an option.

+1. Lacquer thinner cleaned it, and than I used 303 aerospace uv protector, great combo and holds well..

supashane - for sure, I'll post an update with the results. Going to work on it in a day or 2.
