Dead Battery Question

Long story short, battery died last week, yesterday tried to jump from front, didn’t work, went to trunk and jumped the battery itself and took around 30 mins before it started, once it started I let it run for a good 30 mins. Once battery was jumped my trunk was unable to close, and door couldn’t close properly cause windows didn’t come down a little to close door and roll back up. Took car to Chevy dealer where they initially told me the battery wouldn’t be more then $250...two hours later I get a call saying I needed a special battery which is $375...windows needed to be reprogrammed which is $200 and I needed a new trunk latch which is another $200 for a total of $877 with tax....does this sound right at all? I don’t have any warranty anymore and never signed up for the extended. I have a 2010 2ss which was bought new. If the battery is dead and needs to be replaced shouldn’t the windows be reprogrammed by them? As well as trunk latch replaced? It’s not like I was the cause of those two issues that happened because of the dead battery. I’m just trying to figure out why I have to pay for those two things which should be fixed by them cause it’s part of the service from the dead battery. Just wanted to hear everyone’s opinion on this.

Go to a parts store get a new battery. You can reprogram the windows at home. Trunk latch I can't help you with. Hopfuly someone with more experience can help. Battery isn't anything special. You can get an agm for under 300, which are much more expensive than a std battery.

Just thinking, once you put a new battery in I bet you can flip the latch by hand and it'll work fine. It's most likely in the closed position.

RIP OFF. Put your own battery in and reprogram your windows if needed.

Reprogram Windows is simply falling instructions and putting it down then up when it tells you on the DIC

Reprogramming windows is in the owner's manual.

I paid $200 or so at the dealer for a battery, installed.

Don't know about the trunk latch, but your dealer sounds like a crook.

Congratulations on the Transformer Edition, looks like you are keeping this long term!
Sears Diehard Gold battery is $145 and
should last 4 or 5 years average.

To reprogram window indexing Chevy provides that info in your 2010 Owners Manual located on their site here (did the dealer explain that fact to you?).
Simple to try that first on your own; I pasted some instructions from the manual in the image below.
https://my.chevrolet.com/content/dam...aro_owners.pdf

Trunk latch may have just been jammed and maybe freed up by hitting the trunk release button a few times if the Emergency open cable was used at some point ... good to make sure latch is in open position before trying to close the trunk. In any case it just takes 10 minutes to install a new latch if it actually broke.

Sams Club H7 Duracell AGM (absorbed glass mat) battery $169. Similar price for Duralast from Autozone. I bought a Duralast earlier in the year. 1/2 hr job if you never did it before. Remove rings and watches before working around batteries...please. A half second of short circuit on a wedding band or watch will burn you beyond belief. You may loose a limb.

Had my battery go bad a few weeks ago. Cost $145 (with $20 mail in rebate) for new battery; took about 20 minutes to install and reprogram/re-index windows following directions in owners manual.

Not sure what's up with your trunk latch, but I'd replace the battery before replacing/fixing it just to make sure the two aren't related.

As other's have said, the dealership you took it to is trying to rip you off

I hope you brought lube because they're totally screwing you. Window reprogram is roll them down then roll them up. That's literally the extent of reprogramming. As for the trunk latch, unless they broke it shutting the lid there should be no reason for it to be broken outside of it already acting up. My dealership quoted me about $180 for a new GM battery installed. Long story short, you're totally getting hosed.

Listen to all the previous posts. Get a new battery. DO NOT get it from the dealer. Advance Auto installed a new one for me earlier this year (no charge in their parking lot). THEN check out the other problems they wanted to charge you so much for. A new battery may fix it all.
