I am really lost as to the discussion here... Its been confirmed that the car WILL BE much lighter. And, technology moves on;regardless. So it sounds like a "have your cake and eat too" scenario. I want the HUD, MRC, Memory Seating, ambient lighting, etc... GM is going to do all that PLUS shed 200lbs. Im failing to see the issue, I guess??? Sounds like a dream come true, to me?

Although GM is making the car lighter, do you think the LT1 will also have more power than the Corvette's version? Ford is making over 520 on their 5.2, if GM can produce 500hp with their 6.2 NA and lighter car, you don't need F/I.

I want the 6 th gen with the LT1 engine, an 8L90 and the shocks off the fifth gen z28.

Power windows and locks, blue tooth and some type of BMW like fake leather seating material with excellent lateral bolstering .....maybe heated seats and a d shaped steering wheel...

Price that car right with the LT1 v8 and we're good to go..

Sounds like a BMW M4 killer for 3/5ths the price.

Enjoy this time for what it is - a time for people to discuss their wants and needs -- (but please keep it respectable....)

There will - there WILL ....be great rejoicing and excitement on the 16th of May. Nearly all will love what they see in person. That said, there will be a few that see pics and won't like:

>The backup lights (5th gen)
>The B pillar (5th gen)
>The difference in fascias (5th gen)
>The steering wheel (5th gen)
>The wheels (5th gen)
............or some other part or component --

.........................and that's not a bad thing if it's driven by passion.

And 99% of the people on this site are driven by passion for the product. (....there IS that 1% who are terminally grumpy and grouchy, but we love you anyway!..........)

By the way - that list above? HUGE controversy on those items on the 5th gen when it first came out....that's why I have '5th gen' after each item -- it was controversial beyond belief......and yet people embraced the car once they saw it in person (and most embraced it when they saw it in pictures)

Rest assured that Team Camaro never sleeps and always sweats the details. Every decision is agonized over and decisions are made based on customer feedback. (you may not like something, but a bunch more might like it....)

Al, Cheryl, Jim, Todd, and hundreds upon hundreds of others put their all into these muscular automobiles - and I think you'll see that we've addressed what 99% of you have asked us to..........

Now - enjoy the conversation - keep it polite - and enjoy the time in which we find ourselves!!!!

IT'S A GREAT TIME TO BE A CAMARO ENTHUSIAST!!!!

Let me have a bare bones no excuse pushrod v8 muscle car with manual seats windows mirrors and no ac.. Buying a camaro and ordering heating/cooled power seats with memory seems odd to me. Keep those things in the cadillac please..

But who the hell cares at this moment.. We've just been confirmed a 200 pounds or more reduction in CURB WEIGHT..

Thats just cool!

Odd to you. I want it ALL! 460HP LT1, heated/cooled leather, power everything, pushbutton start...the list goes on.

That won't happen, but on the other hand, there are those who would have bought a Camaro if only they felt the interior was more modern...or whatever. Chevrolet can't ignore these folks. I'd guess its not far fetched at all to say more people buy based on looks and things like this rather than just performance. The performance is to be expected. The rest is icing on the cake.

They could offer 550HP for $35K, but if it looked bad you wouldn't see me in it.

Your comment about spending 40k is exactly what I am talking about. If I am going to spend 40k on a Camaro it better have the performance sorted out before cluttering up the dash with aluminum pieces or spring-loaded drink holders or showy LED lighting bits or whatever.("Hey Lance, my car's dash lettering has Arial narrow sans serif font on alcantara inlay with midnight taupe stitching!. Let's do frogurt. I like to pay for lots of pretty sprinkles on that, too.").

If Chevy would make an option group for people that want to spring for that stuff (3SS?) that would be great, but they won't. All models will suffer for this cosmetic bloat in the form of higher costs that all buyers will have to absorb. Also, modding the current interior plastic has been a breeze. Mounting alarm components, stereo peripherals, throttle controllers, etc. have been easy in the Gen 5s due to the spartan muscle car interior.

My passengers appreciate the muscle car feel as opposed to Chevy trying to go German or Japanese with an interior (and probably coming up noticeably short). They know they're in something unique before I even fire it up. Accessorizing/luxury has its place, but let's hope Chevy (unlike Ford) keeps the focus on power to the pavement and not on "world car" clutter in the cockpit. Keep 'em lean and mean (and affordable).
Technically it's a pony car, but the definition of muscle car is so open you can throw lots of cars into that category.

There are plenty of better looking interiors in cars much cheaper than the 5th gen. That said, all of the new GM interiors I have seen are worlds better than in the past. Better looking interiors do not mean bloat and higher cost, inflation equals higher cost

I'm struggling with what you mean by "world car" clutter. The Mustang got fat because they joined the 21st century by switching to a IRS. It is still lighter than the 5th gen, so where is all this "clutter" making a difference?

It seems to me you think the 1SS will have a lot of upgrades we have been discussing. I seriously doubt it, both the base Mustang and Camaro are pretty well stripped for those who want that. Now you are going to get stripped and 200lbs lighter. If you want more, buy the 1SS and strip out the interior. Enough said, no need of acting like everyone wants that and Chevy is saying losing their direction.

Also keep in mind, muscle cars in the 60s ranged from bench seat barebones to AC, power windows, cruise control, premium dashes and materials cars. Having a loaded muscle car is nothing new.

And it's cool that we know it this early when weight is typically revealed later on. We don't know exact weights but losing more than 200 lbs is a lot more than the reasonable were expecting. The sixth gen is shaping up quite nicely.

Like someone mentioned that's why there are trim packages and options.
I wouldn't mind adaptive cruise. MRC would be nice but I could live without it as I'm pretty happy with the handling/ride of my 2010 SS.

Like they have said in the past it all comes down to cost and wants. If the bulk of buyers want it they will make it happen (as they have in the past) but if they can't make it happen for a price that people are willing to pay then it's a matter of what do we give up to get it. That's where these things get harder to justify as this car is very different then an Impala or Cruze and their customers wants.

My mind is a little fuzzy on this but maybe someone else remembers that before the 5th gen was released didn't they say that the V6 would be at least 300HP and the SS would be at least 400HP?
