It is our turn now for the frozen precip. It is already 22 degrees with strong wind. We could get 10 to 12 inches of snow here. Another computer model calls for 12-18 inches. I hope we only get snow no matter the amount. If the mixed precip line is farter north than predicted we could get freezing rain and with the amount of moisture in this system that could be disastrous. My daughter is on the road heading here now. Hopefully she left in time to beat it here. We have warned her to take no chances. With temps this low whatever falls will stick no matter how much brine/salt they put down. Tomorrow night the temp is supposed to be -11! Actual temp, not wind chill. This is Tennessee. Not Michigan or Maine. We are all as prepared as we can be.

Maybe if you got transitions lens, they'd be a bit cooler.

Holy crap Normagene! I feel bad for you guys. Would hearing about our weather make you feel better? Our pool water is 66*, but still too cold for swimming.

Wow Jan. Those temps are entirely too cold.

Good morning. Jina made it in okay. It took her longer to get to Mike's parent's house than expected as it started freeing rain when she hit city limits but she took her time & made it safely. Here it is solid white & the worst of the precip is yet to come. they are getting it worse in southern middle Tennessee where it is still freezing rain & the power outages have already started. Tons of wrecks already. If they open the office I will go in as it is literally in walking distance. Mike will take me in the truck. If it gets too bad we will go home. HAGD & stay warm & safe everyone.

More Snow tomorrow., say it isn't so...... -5 this morning, windchill -20 and 20+ mph winds. But at least it's SUNNY. Well for now that is, tomorrow will be a different story.

Pretty sure we will go over the 100 INCH MARK. CRAZY. This is definitely the worst winter in my lifetime. I think the average snow total is something like 45 inches. Most winters are a piece of cake, a few inches come down here and there, but this is CRAZY every weekend a Blizzard with a foot or more of snow. And Record Cold Temps to boot.

Welcome Chris P! Great thread to hang out in among good folks.

Snow day! They closed our office so I am calling to reschedule clients. Here is a pic of the accumulated sleet from around 7:00 this morning. Now it is snowing hard & fast. It started with freezing rain, turned to sleet & is supposed to snow/sleet all day. Probably won't be making it to Nashville tomorrow either. They have moderated the predicted low for tomorrow night to -3 degrees instead of -11 (air temp, not wind chill). Still crazy for Tennessee.

South Nashville has also been a mess. We are looking forward to it changing over to snow, but so far is just heavy sleet and freezing rain.

It is really odd, but there is almost no visible accumulation in the grass, but there is an inch or so of ice/sleet on the roads. Normally, we see the reverse as roadways are normally a bit warmer.

Right now it is still sleeting fairly steadily. South of Murfreesboro a 12 car accident has closed a section of I-24 and a jackknifed tractor trailer has closed a section of I-40 east of Nashville. Luckily I have nowhere I need to be, filled the gas tank, and am prepped in case we lose power (strong possibility).

Limping around apartment with my damaged ankle. Good for me this week is semester break, campus closed, I have 36 design studio project's to mark this week.

Happy 'Family Day' Canada! This Monday is a national holiday called Family Day and all government and most business closed. Purpose of this holiday is to give people a non-work day to spend time with their loved ones.

Nice Holiday. It is President's day here so lots of places were already closed & did not need to take a snow day.

HahahaHehehe - - - SNOW WE GOT

Hubby had to make paths for the dogs since the snow is way way too deep. Paths are about four and a half feet deep. Dogs are gett'n stressed being limited, they normally have over an acre of invisible fence area to roam. It's funny to watch them stand and look beyond the path, but they don't even bother trying, they know it's crazy deep.

Now we are getting the snow, off and on in heavy bursts with times of little precip at all, sleet & freezing rain, then repeat. I know you northerners will think we are wimps, but this is more than enough to pretty much shut Tennessee down.

You're way better off with snow than freezing rain/ice. That stuff is deadly. You can at least get some traction on snow, ice - fagetaboutit.
