Tony Mamo Ported Throttle Body Installed
I ordered a Tony Mamo ported throttle body a couple of days ago to install on my new to me 2017 ZL1 with 10.5k miles. Ordering was a piece of cake. Sent him a PM on here, he gave me the price and a link, I paid and he shipped. Tony over delivered and got it to me on the day he said he'd actually ship it. Sneaky guy!
Tony asked me if I wouldn't mind trying the throttle body before installing the Roto-Fab CAI, so I'm going to drive the car around for a week or so to compare stock, to ported throttle body and then to ported throttle body + CAI. Installing it is very easy. I timed it and even while taking a number of pictures, it took me 13 minutes to install and you can't get much easier. 15 minutes would include getting the tools out and putting them away. I did use my Milwaukee cordless 1/4 ratchet to speed things along though. Don't have one? Buy one and thank me later. Before: During: After: I'll post up my thoughts after putting a hundred or so miles on the car. Just waiting for the rain to let up here in Cali. The car fired right up and idled like stock. Revved it up a bit and got sad because it's raining! LOL Here's what I'd say about my experience with Mamo Motorsports: 1. Extremely responsive. I mean, EXTREMELY. 2. Friendly and informative. 3. Stands behind their product. 4. Shipped days ahead of schedule to over-deliver to their customer with excellent packaging. 5. Quality workmanship. The throttle body was ported very nicely. Tony charges a bit more than some competitors, but like I told him, I knew who was going to get my money. I have no doubts that I'll be pleased with the results, but the verdict is not yet in. More to come...... Last edited by dmwtech; 01-08-2018 at 09:44 PM. |

The easiest way to see it is to remove your stock rubber throttle elbow. Run your finger inside of the throttle body and you'll feel the ridge/lip. In Tony's ported version, that is all smooth with a very nice transition. I took the pictures not so much as a DIY since several of those exist online. Check out this video which gives a nice outline of the TM throttle body: |

Tony said he would ship mine yesterday, but it was waiting for me at the house when I got home today.

From the photos, it doesn't look like the blade sits flush anymore.
I've never had experienced with a ported TB, but can't this negatively effect A/F?

What are the positive effects with an A10. We all know the manual stumbles off the line.

I was thinking the same, until I saw the stock TB had the same , Plus, check out the bottom of the butterfly on the stock one, big gap too

Yes, there's a gap there too. It seems slightly bigger on the modded one. I would think that would result in a rough idle if so.

It looks like the butterfly is actually tilted a bit in the pictures, maybe why the gap looks so big. Maybe not closed all the way?

The car needs air, even at idle..
