2014 Year End U.S. Auto Sales by Brand, Corporations, etc..

Last year I did the 2013 year end sales from the auto manufacturers, and I thought I would do the follow up for the 2014 calendar year sales in the U.S.

Fen has graciously given us the GM Global sales earlier, these will be the U.S. sales only of brands/comapnies (unless anyone wants the global too)

Plus anybody from the SVT Raptor thread that would like to discuss/debate sales figures will probably like it here

U.S. auto sales end 2014 strong but slower growth looms
Quote:
Automakers reported strong December U.S. sales Monday, boosted by falling gas prices, but industry executives and analysts cautioned that growth would slow this year after five years of rapid recovery from the recession.

General Motors easily beat analyst expectations, logging a 19 percent gain to 274,483 vehicles, the best December for the No. 1 U.S. automaker in seven years. Ford Motor sales of 220,671 were up just 1 percent, missing expectations.

"U.S. auto sales are dancing to a very different (and we believe unsustainable) beat," Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas said in a research note.

He suggested U.S. auto demand has outpaced economic, wage and housing growth rates, thanks largely to easy credit access for consumers.

Spurred by low gasoline prices, pickup truck and large SUV sales surged in the month.

Sales of GM pickup trucks Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra surged 35 percent to 81,273, outpacing the F-Series pickups from Ford, which were flat at 74,355 vehicles. Ford's F-150 pickup truck sales remain limited due to the rollout of a new version.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' Ram Truck brand pickup sales soared 32 percent to 44,222 units.

Auto sales are an early indicator each month of consumer spending. A Reuters poll of 11 analysts showed expectations for a 10.5 percent gain in December, helped by low gas prices which boosted demand for pickup trucks and large sport utility vehicles.

U.S. average gasoline prices are 34 percent lower than a year ago, and in much of the country, are less than $2 per gallon.

A poll of 35 economists by Thomson Reuters showed they expect, on average, a December annualized selling rate of 16.9 million vehicles, the highest for the month since before the 2008-2009 industry downturn amid the recession.

Full-year sales for 2014 are expected to finish around 16.5 million vehicles, matching the number in 2006. Rising demand has allowed automakers to boost prices for their vehicles, however.

Kelley Blue Book, an industry source for vehicle valuations, said Monday the average transaction price for a new vehicle sold in the U.S. market in December was a record $34,367, up 2.5 percent from a year ago.

Pricing fell 1.2 percent for hybrid and other alternative fuel cars as gasoline prices continued to fall, KBB said.

GM's December transaction prices grew 4 percent from a year earlier to $38,816, KBB said.

Fiat Chrysler's U.S. sales jumped 20 percent in December on strong Jeep SUV and pickup truck sales, but still missed analysts' expectations. FCA's sales of 193,261 for the month were the highest since 2006 for the company once known as Chrysler.

Nissan Motor's December U.S. sales narrowly beat expectations, while Honda Motor's sales fell short.

Nissan on Monday said its U.S. sales grew 7 percent to 117,318 vehicles, and that 2014 sales of 1.39 million vehicles were a company record.

However, while Honda's U.S. sales rose 1.5 percent to 137,281 vehicles, the figure was well short of analysts' expectations of about 143,000 vehicles in December. For the year, Honda sales were up 1 percent at 1.54 million vehicles.

Explorer sales best since 2005
- Fusion hits full-year sales record, exceeding 300,000; Mustang achieves best December

DEARBORN, Mich., Jan. 5, 2015 – Ford continues as America’s best-selling vehicle brand for the fifth consecutive year and the F-Series remains the best-selling vehicle for the 33rd straight year and best-selling truck for the 38th year in row as 2014 U.S. sales results are tallied.

Ford Motor Company’s U.S. sales totaled 2,480,942 vehicles in 2014, flat versus a year ago, primarily due to the all-new F-150 changeover and a planned 15 percent reduction in daily rental sales.

Sales totaled 220,671 vehicles in December, up 1 percent from a year ago and the company’s best December sales since 2005.

“Fusion and Escape posted record years, and our newest products – including Mustang and Transit and Lincolns – are attracting strong customer demand,” said John Felice, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service. “Demand for the all-new F-150 also is very high, and it now is the fastest-turning vehicle in Ford showrooms, averaging just five days on dealer lots in December.”

F-Series sales were 74,355 vehicles in December and 753,851 vehicles for all of 2014.

Escape sales increased 5 percent in December versus a year ago – totaling 25,603 vehicles –for its best-ever December performance and record full-year sales of 306,212 vehicles. Fusion also achieved record performance for the year, with sales of 306,860 cars.

Explorer sales totaled 16,632 vehicles in December, up 6 percent from a year ago, making 2014 Explorer’s best sales performance since 2005, with 189,339 utilities sold.

Transit had a breakout month in December, with sales of 10,030 vans. This represents the vehicle’s best month since its June launch. Transit Connect produced its best sales month ever, with 5,012 sales, a 32 percent increase from a year ago. 2014 was a record year for Transit Connect with sales of 43,210 vans.

Sales of the all-new Mustang continue climbing, with December sales of 9,511 vehicles, a 66 percent increase from a year ago. With sales increases coming in all regions of the country, Mustang posted its best December sales since 2006.

Lincoln sales of 9,690 vehicles were up 21 percent versus last December for the brand’s best December results since 2009. For the full year, Lincoln sales were up 16 percent, with 94,474 vehicles sold, making it Lincoln’s best year since 2008. MKC reached its best monthly sales since launch, with 2,310 sold. Navigator sales increased 90 percent in December, with 1,792 utilities sold.

2014 Chevrolet US Sales Top 2 Million
Quote:
Chevrolet had a huge 2014, logging more than 2,000,000 total sales in the United States for the first time since 2007. With the help of big sales from familiar favorites (and a new face or two), Chevrolet moved 2,033,442 vehicles in the US throughout 2014, good for a 4.4% year-over-year improvement.

As could be expected, the biggest mover was the Silverado nameplate, which accounted for more than one quarter of all Chevy sales in the US with a whopping 529,755 deliveries. Sales of the Silverado were up 10.3% from 2013.

The Silverado was no longer the lone pickup under Chevy’s umbrella with the launch of the 2015 Chevy Colorado. The Colorado, in just a few short months of sales, piled up 8,003 deliveries, which indicates that 2015 could be a positively huge year for midsize pickups.

Also enjoying an unexpectedly huge 2014 was the duo of Cruze and Equinox, which posted sales of 273,060 units and 242,242 units, respectively. Cruze was up 10% year-over-year, and the Equinox was up 1.7%.

Also enjoying big sales gains in 2014 were the pony segment champion Camaro (86,297 deliveries, up 7.1%), Corvette (34,839 deliveries, up 101.5%) , Sonic (93,518 deliveries, up 9.2%), Spark (39,159 deliveries, up 14.7%), Suburban (55,009 deliveries, up 7.3%), Tahoe (97,726 deliveries, up 17%), and Traverse (103,943 deliveries, up 7.7%).

GM 2014 US Sales Wrap-Up: Closing in on 3 Million Deliveries in 2015
Quote:
General Motors had a positively massive 2014, piling up sales totaling 2,935,008 units in the United States over the course of 12 months. This figure is good for a 5.3% year-over-year increase and puts the goal of 3,000,000 domestic sales squarely within GM’s sites for 2015.

Chevrolet led the charge for GM with 2,033,442 deliveries, a 4.4% improvement over 2013 sales. As expected, the Chevrolet Silverado was GM’s overall volume leader in the US last year, moving 529,755 units. Chevrolet also benefitted greatly from increased sales for Cruze (273,060 units) and Equinox (242,242 units).

GMC’s 2014 sales totaled 501,853 units, good for the brand’s best performance in 9 years. GMC was led by the Sierra (211,833 units) and Terrain (105,016 units). The all-new and increasingly popular Canyon pitched in 3,070 units in only a few short months on the market.

Buick also had its best year in a long time in 2014, posting 228,963 sales on the strength of best-ever years for both the Enclave and Encore. Sales of the Enclave totaled 62,300 units, and sales of the Encore totaled 38,892 units.

Cadillac’s US sales fell from 2013’s impressive figure, dropping from 182,543 units to 170,750 units sold in the United States. Cadillac’s global sales continue to rise, however, and the introduction of a number of new models should serve to help Cadillac rebound in the new year.

Given continued upward momentum since the onset of the economic recession, GM will be eyeing its first year of US sales at or above the 3,000,000 mark since 2007, when it notched domestic sales of 3,822,611 units.

2014 GMC US Sales Wrap-Up: Best Year Since 2005
Quote:
GMC is ushering in 2015 by reflecting on all of its successes in 2014, and it has plenty of blessings to count. Specifically, GMC has around 501,863 reasons to celebrate the year that was, tantamount to the number of vehicles it sold in the United States.

The 501,863-unit sales mark is good for an 11.3% improvement over full-year 2013 sales and the best result that GMC has experienced in the United States in nine years. Retail sales were up 11.8% with a total of 437,514 units.

GMC was led by the Sierra, which accounted for 211,833 units and a 14.9% increase over 2013 sales. The next-best-seller, the Terrain, moved slightly less than half that volume with 105,016 deliveries (up 5.5% year-over-year).

Despite being down 6.5% from 2013, the Acadia chipped in an impressive 83,972 units. The Yukon was up 56.9% with sales totaling 41,569 units, and the Yukon XL added 29,752 units (down 4.8%). The Savana added 26,641 units, up 59.5% from 2013.

One of GMC’s biggest stories was the revamped and relaunched Canyon mid-size pickup, which closed the year with 3,070 sales since originally hitting the market in September.

GMC’s 2014 result marks the first time that the brand has sold more than a half-million vehicles in the United States since it moved 537,572 vehicles back in 2005.

Buick models performed better than their counterparts from the previous year almost entirely across the board, with both the Enclave and Encore experiencing their best sales year ever. Buick’s retail sales totaled 196,572, up 6.6% from 2013.

The Enclave was the brand leader, posting sales of 62,300 units in the US, up 2.9% over 2013. The Encore was Buick’s fastest-rising model, climbing from 31,956 sales in 2013 to 48,892 sales in 2014.

The 228,963 vehicle total marks Buick’s best full-year performance since 2006. For comparison, Buick’s sales in Canada for all of 2014 totaled 18,745, the best sales total from Canada also since 2006.

Buick has posted year-over-year gains in 10 out of 12 months during 2014, making 24 months of growth in the United States in the past 29.

2014 Cadillac US Sales Wrap-Up: Down, But Not Out

Quote:
Cadillac’s global sales increased by 5% in 2014, reinforcing its status as the fastest-rising full-line luxury automaker in the world for 2013. Its sales in its home country…eh, not so hot. Cadillac was down 6.5% in 2014, moving 170,750 vehicles as opposed to the 182,543 vehicles sold the year prior.

Cadillac’s overall performance in the US this past year was something of a mixed bag. The brand’s three biggest heavy hitters—the SRX, CTS, and ATS—all posted respectable sales despite being down from the year prior.

The ATS was down 22% with 2,465 sales, marking its poorest December performance since its launch in 2012. Despite adding in 31,115 sales, the CTS was down 3.8% and posted its poorest full-year performance since it launched in 2002. The SRX remained Cadillac’s best-seller overall with 53,578 units delivered; despite being down 5.6% from 2013, December sales of the SRX marked the model’s third-best month for the year.

The Escalade was arguably Cadillac’s brightest star in 2014, with deliveries of the Escalade totaling 19,482 units (a 54.7% increase) and the Escalade ESV totaling 10,987 units (a 38.2% increase).

Also, the ELR performed well for its first full year of sales, with 1,310 all-electric vehicles delivered during the year.

The XTS rounds out Cadillac’s lineup with deliveries of 24,335 units, down 25.3%.
