Ignore my ignorance, but are gauges necessary? I'm about to put in a SLP supercharger.

Short answer, yes they are. With a SC or Turbo, you will not necessarily get a Check Engine Light when there is an issue. External gauges will allow you to monitor engine's vitals at all times and prevent a disaster from happening by being informed and shutting it down in time.

I mounted Autometer Cobolt Boost, A/F, Fuel Pressure with some universal pods on the speaker grille. Worked great and I can turn them any angle.
