Yeah, it doesn't pencil out for me either you'd spend more for less performance and lose the warranty in the process. But it was not the OPs thought, he only asked which had more power and was faster. The published numbers tell that story pretty well so I was wondering what he was trying to get at myself.

Don't underestimate the 4 banger turbo 2 bolt ons and a tune I gained 40hp and 110 pounds of torque to the wheels drove it for 4 summers before I had any issues. On my 2008 Cobalt SS Turbo SS 2.0 LNF direct injection. Though they could of denied me warranty work they didn't but just my 2 cents. I drive a 2016 2SS now!

Those things would haul! Also, with it being lighter than the 6cyl it should be pretty interesting with what can be done. |

Turbo lag
Real Solution: Test Drive. Test Drive. Test Drive. Then figure out how to afford the SS. For my budget, I had to choose between SS and 2LT RS vert. They were nearly the same price differential. Since the V6 has TONS of power and torque, I did not need to get 0 - 60 as fast as the SS, I picked the vert - but I can put the top down for 8 months out of the year. Make no mistake, I wanted to get to 0 - 60 that fast, so if speed is your desire, go SS or save your pennies for a ZL1. As for mods - experiment with a used car, not a new one.

I drove a Eagle Talon TSi AWD for several years. That had turbo lag. I have driven the turbocharged Camaro just over a month and for over 2500 miles. If there is turbo lag it is only noticed when your ears are listening for it and is not noticeable by me, at least, in the driving experience.

shhhhh we need guinea pigs! experiment all you want, people!
I really am looking forward to what people do with the T4, I've always been a fan of JDM tuners, and am excited to see end results of some powerful American 4 bangers

If I were in the market, here is what I would do. Remember, that being on a forum like ours, does represent a small fraction of individuals. Check out, for instance Mustang6g, the Ecoboost guys are trading in for the V8's, blowing engines/no warranaty... If that is the performance level that you like, get the V8, no modding to void warranty. If you don't care about warranty, then mod away until your happy.
I don't track my car, I ordered it for my DD. Some will say, 'why did you buy a 1LE for your DD and your not tracking the car on a yearly bases.' My response, this car is a blast to drive, blown a few cars away on ramps and stuff, (whoops), best car that I have ever had. Awesome car to drive around. Buy what you want / do what you want, after research. For me the Z/28 was to track ready for my DD and the ZL1, well I like N/A and don't need that much power to have fun.

I can see the merits of going either way, honestly if I was going to keep the car bones stock it would be a V-6 with the 6 speed manual and NPP exhaust (only required options) and when the 1LE comes out even a bigger reason for the V-6. However if I were looking for a canyon carver then it would be the 2.0T, also if I was looking to modify the car I would go with the 2.0T over the V-6.
The lack of weight of the 2.0T model and having a 50/50 weight split compared to the V-6 model would just make it great. Also the 2.0T has more torque and at a lower rpm then the V-6 engine, you also save some cash on the purchase on top of that. |
