Active Rev Matching question on SS
How good is this feature on shifts from 6th to 3rd on the highway (or 6th to 2nd)?? Just curious on owner's feedback on it.

Never had the need to shift from 6th to 2nd however when down shifting more than one gear I always try to hit each gear. So 5th to 4th to 3rd etc.

Very good. It knows which gear you're about to push the shifter into...so it revs appropriately in anticipation.

Is there a way to default this to on? Every time the car is restarted its off. I know, too lazy to read the manual...

Is active rev-matching only on the m6 or does it do it on the a8 when manually shifted

With an automatic, you don't need to worry about rev matching, because the auto does it for you. So yes and no.

If your off the gas, will it pop the rpms up to kinda sound like a m6. I thought I heard that in a review.

ARM is a fantastic feature to have. I was quite a bit skeptical about it before I got my car due to being a firm believer in always being engaged with the car and being better at driving it, why I always by manual but man... ARM is amazing, I never even bother rev matching anymore because no matter how good the driver is, the system is 100% correct on matching the revs when downshifting.
Letting off the gas will not engage the ARM. Pressing in the clutch does. From what I can feel in the car, it's a 2 step process if you downshift very very slowly. Step 1: kicks in when you put the clutch in, Step 2 is a more accurate rev match when you put it in the lower gear. If you do a faster downshift, it does it all in 1 step. |
