93 Octane in Southern California?

Looking for a Gas station with 93 or better in the Glendale / Burbank area. Anyone know of any? My car pings sometimes on the highest grade out here (91) and the manual states 93 only. I don't want to put a bottle of 104 octane boost in it every time I fill up, for various reasons. Anyone have ideas at how I can keep it at 93 or higher? As we all know, it runs soooo much better and pulls a lot harder with the right fuel...

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thx

Do the octane boosters really help? I've read they don't, but I'm ready to resort to anything!

I'm in wayyy Northern California, where there is no hope for 93. Car was originally purchased in Midwest where we have plenty of 93. There is a noticeable loss of power on 91 vs 93. Very disappointed

Try here....Looks like Redlands is the closest.....Good luck....

https://find93.com/

Ususally tracks like Auto Club and Buttonwillow sell higher Octane fuel also if you go to a track day....

Forget the canned octane boosters. Blend up your own tank of 93 octane. 4.25 gallons of 100 octane in a tank otherwise filled with 91 octane equals 93 octane.

The 76 at Commonwealth and Gilbert in Fullerton has Sunoco 100 unleaded at the pump, it's usually $8.99/gallon. Another 76 station at 215/Ramona Expressway has it as well. They're usually $9.99/gallon.

Those are the only ones I can personally vouch for, but I know there are others.

What about the concentrates?

I can't speak to how well they work, or if they're snake oil. I do recall reading someone's posting on another board a while back where they attempted to conduct a semi-scientific comparison of canned octane boosters, and my general takeaway was that most of the products for sale didn't actually have an impact on octane, and that one of the key ingredients may actually be harmful to your engine/emissions systems if used regularly.

One of the primary ingredients refiners use to boost octane is toluene. If you look up the MSDS for Premium Unleaded gasoline, you'll see that its a major component, something like 20+% by volume. I also read a blog/post somewhere by a California-based enthusiast who was using hardware store bought toluene to bump his octane rating as well, but he didn't exactly give readers a clear blueprint for percentages or proportions to the point where I felt comfortable trying it, and I also think that there wasn't a tremendous cost savings over just buying $40 worth of fuel and using it to bump your octane.

I've decided that I am just going to start keeping a couple of 5 gallon cans of race fuel in my garage for the occasional weekend at the dragstrip or autocross or just hooning around. We may see higher octane at pumps in the future for the sake of efficiency, but that's still years away.

Regarding the concentrates, I think that the main draw is the convenience. Cost is equal to buying a few gallons of race gas to mix in with the 91.

I read a little bit to refresh my memory, and another concern is a chemical called MMT. Folks on the Corvette board I was reading say that if you use a booster with this MMT chemical and have a warranty issue, GM can apparently deny your claim as the stuff leaves evidence of use inside your engine.

There's also some confusion/debate about what constitutes a "point" of octane rating. Products that claim to raise octane by "two points" actually raise it by two TENTHS of a point.. and so on.

I'll stick with blending fuel. It produces a more predictable result and you're mixing two spec products. I am going to do some autocross next weekend, and I will buy some more fuel ahead of the event. I will ask the gas station for a MSDS for this particular fuel. I think it's Sunoco, but the MSDS will tell me for sure.
