I love mine and it will be even better when I make it functional...

I didn't buy my car to "appreciate" the past as much as celebrate the present. A mail slot doesn't a tradition make....300+ HP does. And as far as my personal opinion, I am with many others....not functional, not needed.

Personally I wish there was more of a difference between the hot rods and the little brother...

...my question is,....since we are into the realm of... if it's there it should do something for the performance the car state in manufacturing,... I ask, what does the mail slot actually do? Aesthetics died over 40 years ago.

old school, my 68 had a "egg crate" on the hood that did nothing too.

What do you call factory stripes? How about halo lights? How about choices of colors? Different wheel finishes? All are aesthetics, have nothing to do with function. That is what makes Car A appeal to some people and Car B to others. If it were not for aesthetics all cars would look alike.

I like the look of the mail slot but agree that it's a bummer that its not functional. I'd like to see a remake of the cold air induction that came on the 69 z28's A flapped near the window that opens and sucks air directly in. Guess it would be kind of hard without a carb. Also, don't judge a car because of the engine. Judge it only if it has a sissy horse or snake on it. |

I actually dislike the '10-'13 mail slot now since it was replaced with a FUNCTIONAL hood vent on the '14+ cars. The mail slot looks fine but I never really liked it since it was never functional.

Even my 2004 Dodge Ram Hemi Sport Edition has a non-functional hood scoop. It's all for looks. The Challenger hood vents, same way, non-functional.

Mine's functional. I put a scanner in it. Cool mod for cruise nights.

I'd say there was a thirty year drought in both performance and design. The last few years have really revived both. I like the mail slot but would have preferred a functional design. Bot my 70 Cuda and '71 formula Firebird had inserts in the scoops. Performance wise I know the numbers go to my SS but the big block 4 barrels were awesome machine. My Firebird had a Muncie 4 speed and that car felt like it went airborn when I opened it up in 2nd gear. I paid $1000 for each of those cars. I could have bought 46 at that price with what I paid for my '12.
