I understand the only common denominator with all of you on this forum is the car, hence the mixed bag of responses. Some guys like loud cars so they replace it with a less restrictive exhaust. Some guys like tint and blackout lights. Some guys like a louder stereo. Some guys like 285's on the front wheel. Some guys like reclining seats........and some guys like speed.

For the guys that know, you know.

The battery replacement is an attempt to shed some weight at the strip, along with some other measures to make it as quick as possible with a stock tune. This is an AGM lead acid type (like the factory and it's 700 cca) just like the Braille unit, the dealer for Duracell is right down the street so I went there.

Speed costs money....sometimes a lot of money, weight shaving does free up horsepower and can be cheaper at times. To answer an earlier comment, at 8.24 lbs/hp the battery is worth 3hp...not much...but I will remove the seats (86 lbs) I now have skinny fronts (49lbs) and I have a couple other items I can strip on race day.

My intention is to wring out all that the car has on a stock tune this fall, I am currently at 11.80 that no untuned '16 Mustang on this planet can do, a Scat Pack MAYBE but doubt it. I will be boosting in the spring so I can never go back and do what I want to do now.

Your car is a performance car gentleman, I have been racing for almost 30 years and been fortunate enough to live near one of the fastest tracks in the country. I hope my 11.XX pass will be the bar that you can brag to your friends about when they ask "how quick are these cars?"
Preach on brother.

Yes and I'll take one just as soon as my battery needs to be replaced. Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware of an option between full size and megadollar lithium. I run a Lithium in my bike and feel it was an extra $50 well spent.

Everyone also has a choice to leave a positive comment that contributes to the community and knowledge base, or to leave a negative one that does neither.

You already admitted it cranks slower than the stock battery. That is not good. Also means your alternator is stressed during the charge cycle, and our alternators charge cycle is computer controlled. Watch your charge gauge closely while running your accessories when stopped or in slow traffic.

But it's your car, do what you want. Hope that 20 lb savings gets you the gold medal
I agree, and when the battery gets weak the car does some funny things most people wouldn't associate with the battery.

AMEN and good luck this is the stuff that went on in the early days of the LS1 those were such fun times for me. 100lbs out should get you damn near a tenth. I would pull out all the stops right down to emptyng the washer fluid tank. I cant wait to hear how your car runs there I will be getting in on a rental there in October some time. In fact if you know of one send me a PM

I assume you are looking at a carbon fiber driveshaft as well? That's lighter and its rotational weight. That alone could be worth a tenth...

Could also cut off the stock muffler and throw on some small bullets or none at all....just throwing out some ideas if you want all you can get out of a stock car/stock tune.

I think you could go 11.60s with all the little tricks and still stock for the most part.

I had a header flange welded on right in front of the stock muffler on my 99SS. I had a bullet muffler that also had a flanges welded to it along with a hanger. Id swap out the factory muffler with a shorty bullet muffler before a track day. It was a good 30lbs off the car. When I was done the factory muffler bolted right back on.

That's cool.

I just had custom true duals made for my 98 with bullets dumped at the rear axle. Longtubes and ORX. It was so damn loud but I was only 19 when I got the car in 2004 lol... Didn't care.

This is also reminding me of the old ls1days. I plan on doing a lot with my 6g when I get one at stock or near stock levels. Milan is a pretty fast track near me. Not atco fast but it's pretty solid.

OMG some of you guys are idiots. I run an Anti Gravity battery in my Camaro. It weighs about 4lbs and has never had an issue in 4 years. I autox my car and the class I run your limited on what can be done to the car. Every pound counts.

Thanks to you and the op. I was reading the tread as it might give insight on weight reduction. But seems to be lot of cyber bullying (put downs) in the G6 general threads lately.
If a poster has what they think is a better solution just say thanks to the op and here is what I use or do. Some tried this but the thread went to heck in first page of posts. The G6 category specific threads seem to have less of this and prove to be more helpful.

That's a good tip thanks, I don't think I'll be making the same mistake twice.

Update;

Its been roughly 2 months and 1500 miles with temperature swings that have went from the 90's then to 44 degrees today. I will be taking out the battery this week as the colder weather approaches here in the Northeast.

I have had ZERO issues with this particular battery at any time during its trial run, it has not let me down during multiple shopping stops or hot laps at Atco. The next phase in this experiment is whether the battery tender keeps it fresh during the winter months...I did see somewhere that you can run these dead when not in use but I'll have to read up on the best way to store them.
