If you ask for the 64, they should be able to accommodate you. They are paid to do the oil change based on a dollar amount, as the part numbers are not submitted to GM- so they can use different filters than the one in the parts manual. I would do it if a customer asked.
Sorry you guys hate your dealer. Wish you were closer- as at mine we would clean out your front apron, have a coke and a smoke with you while watching a Master tech carefully change the oil and check over the whole car just as if it was his own. We have a good time with enthusiast owners and encourage them. If you're REALLY into it, I might even buy you lunch afterwards and do a couple burnouts in the back lot with you.

Took my '15 in for the break-in oil change, and Service Advisor would only install a UPF48R. First, he told me the UPF48R was a better filter because it cost $16+ (compared to $4+ for a PF64), and they used it in the Corvette. He then said he talked to "Chevrolet", and that the PF64 would void the warranty, even though the UPF48R and PF64 are cross-listed in the parts catalog. I showed him the Track Prep pdf from chevrolet.com, and he said Chevrolet obviously can't keep their facts straight. I told him the UPF48R was probably a better filter for 5W-30 oil, but the bigger holes in the PF64 worked better with the 15W-50. He also admitted he wasn't familiar with the Z28.
They did put in Mobil1 15W-50. Oil change was covered under Complete Care, so N/C. So, it looks like I'll be doing my own oil changes from here on out. Last edited by craZed; 12-20-2015 at 12:34 PM. |

Ok I have a question about the oil now. I work at a tire shop and we change a lot of oil. I was told by my Pennzoil rep never go up in numbers but you can go down. So why would you go from 5w30 to 15w50?

Chevrolet recommends 15W-50 for track applications. The heavier weight oil is more heat resistant, maintaining its viscosity under sustained high ambient temperatures or high rpms.

Mobil One or Dexose??
As I scheduled the appointment for my free oil change before my 1st track day, my question to the my SA- do you have Mobil One 15W50 in stock? (yes, we have to keep it in stock) and do you have the PF64 filter? (yes, we have to keep it in stock).....they never officially "checked" so I wasn't confident so brought my 15W50 and PF64 just in case.
Well, needless to say, they didn't have Mobil One 15W50 but said they had the filter....OK whatever, just use my 10 quarts of Mobil One 15W50 and give me 10 quarts of Mobil One 5W30 and call it even After the oil change, there is a case 12 quarts of AC Delco Synthetic Blend "Dexose" 5W30 and a UPF48R filter in the P/S floor. As it was late, the SA took off so I didn't get a chance to ask (not that he would know) but does the Z/28 only use Mobil One or can it use this Dexose stuff?

I take my car in at least once a year before spring to have everything checked over and now that my free oil change period has expired I bring in my own full synthetic oil and have them change it for a small fee usually about $8 dollars. I've been using Pennzoil Ultimate Platinum since my free oil change expired.
My dealer knows that I do track events so they do a good job going over everything including alignment and Dot4 fluid. They have in the past also provided maintenance services for the local contractor of Hooked On Driving who had a couple of Stingrays thru a partnership with Chevy, so I trust them with my car and it doesn't hurt that the service manager is a gear head.

When the oil changes stop being free, I'll have saved up for a nice set of Race Ramps and do it myself.
