First Tire Rotation?

Hello,

I have a 2023 1-SS with 1LE. Just went over 1000 miles.

When should I do my first tire rotation?

I have heard 1200-1500 for first rotation, but the owners manual says 7500.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

First tire rotation is when you replace your tires with new ones.

You have a staggered front to rear setup (different width tires). If you do not have directional tires, you could swap left and right tires just on fronts and same for rears. Usually with a staggered setup, no tire rotations. I usually go through two rears for each front set for normal street driving.

Enjoy your new Camaro.

Not so. Non-directional tires can be rotated side to side.

Only tires that have "direction of rotation" arrows on the sidewalls can't be rotated.

Yeah, but it also won't help too much when you're only able to move a driven tire to another driven position and similarly for non-driven tires.

Maybe we could dub this "flipping" instead of "rotation", for more clarity

When road racing, we used "flipping" to mean flip the tire on the rim. Worn outside edge was then on the inside. Got more tire life that way.

I think "swapping" sides of the tire/wheels in the front or rear makes sense.

Sheesh, you got me there I'm too used to these modern street tires with different inside/outside treads and compounds, so flipping the tires that way didn't even occur to me.

Swapping side to side or swapping is useless but I do like the effort made to try and convince someone that it's worthwhile or a thing to do be done.

I agree modern street tires you can't flip them on the wheel rim. Racing slicks like Goodyear or Hoosier R compound tires you can flip them and gain value.

I totally agree swapping side to side is a waste of time and does not gain any value.

7500 miles, pretty much when I got a new set! lol

No gain swapping L to R on the same axle, doesn't really buy you any extra "time" out of these quick wearing tires.

It is helpful for track days since most tracks wear the tires on one side of the car faster than the other. I usually swap left front to right front halfway through an event if there's enough time and the same with rears if there's time but the uneven wear is usually worse on the fronts.

For street driving an SS 1LE it is probably not helpful to swap left to right unless you notice uneven wear on one side.

As long as they aren't directional you can move them side to side which I think is a good idea. May keep them from cupping, thats when they start roaring and sounding like all terrain tires.
