How often do you change the oil when drag racing
If you drag race your car every weekend for at least 10 passes with a high HP FI and forged internals.......how often should the oil be changed. Right now i change mine after about 25 passes, but is that too much or too less? Im using Amsoil and Royal purple

I have no idea if that is too much or too less... but I tend to change my oil after 20 or so passes... maybe even fewer depending on the mileage since the last change... car is also a DD...

Good idea to change pretty often when driving hard like that, but I would say you could go twice as long with no worries. I prefer Amsoil to RP though.....

Every time I run it. No more than 10 passes for me.
Oil is cheap. Motors and labor are expensive. I'm sure it's fine to do much more. I'd rather keep all the insurance I can. |

Once a year. That's still way more than often enough. I change the filter at least twice a year though, because we cut it apart to check for excess metal.
Edit: My race car is not street legal. Gets about 100 passes a year on it. Edit2: Stripped the motor down after 8 years and there was zero sign of wear. Not even a hint of a ridge in the cylinder wall, bearings looked brand new. |

the oil will last way longer than your nerves will. I just feel like i need to change it, even though it is always perfectly fresh.

Every 10 passes at the dragstrip.... sounds too early to me.
If I made 10 passes every week I'd change it every 6-8 weeks. But in the interim I'd make sure it was topped off. If I was road racing at say Road America all weekend, I'd change the oil after a weekend but that's a lot of driving.

If using the AMSOIL zrod I would reccomend double the drain intervals. If running 1/4 miles I would reccomend draining every 7-10 passes or 2000 miles if made a few passes with that oil

Every 7-10 passes, maybe you should specify how quick a car. We for example use Amsoil in a 7.4@195 and we change it every other outing but we make 1700HP. I don't think a high 11 second car should change oil after 7 quarter mile passes.
I can make 7 passes on a Tuesday night in a 12/13 second car, and I should change the oil? Don't think so. 45 year old drag racer

while we are on subject... how accurate is the oil life % meter on these machines, or does it just go by miles,or the last time the rest button was changed?

I think it also monitors oil temps too.
