2011 Pace Car

just purchased an 2011 Pace car and it came with the original window sticker. How do you determine what production number it would be? DO they use the VIN#?

Hello all, new poster to this forum but have visited frequently just to read.
It’s refreshing to see such passion and interest in the Gen 5 Camaro’s.
I don’t know if it’s appropriate to post a question w/o starting a new thread. No high-jacking intended.
Disclaimer: Just from the reads it apparent that most all of you have forgotten more details on these Camaro’s then I have knowledge of.
Although I have a 2011, my interests and toys are mostly mid-sixties muscle, 100% original.
I attended the SEMA show in 010. I was impressed with the Synergy edition. Especially, for me personally, a color other than green. I thought the design was great (although not big on ground pkg’s and things of that nature) and browsed the engineering and was quite impressed. Not enough to take the time and energy to order one and endure the wait.
In Aug 2011, I was at a dealership just to check out the new Vettes. Hopped onto a 4-wheeler, w/sales person, and took off to look at them. On the way, we passed a black Camaro that appeared to be just like the SEMA Synergy. Parked in a row of mostly 6 cyl’s.
Course I yell, stop! it looked to be a Synergy edition. Ground pkg, larger red striped wheels, red stitched gray interior, etc. Only the window sticker claimed it was an automatic. No keys, but after peering in, I was sure it was a manual by the looks of the Hurst and short throw.
Sorry, long story short. Because it was described automatic, I was able to negotiate a substantial discount. I requested 0 financing as offered on the Vettes. I’m just an easy catch. Throw 0 financing at me, I don’t think and just pull the trigger.
I must say, this Camaro is the most enjoyable/exciting drive of all my toys. I now have it out of storage, just finished two enjoyable day trips. It just turned 2000 miles and I decided to sell it to someone who will drive it. The car deserves that.
My best buddy of almost 50 yrs. (served together, got separated and spent 9 days in enemy territory in quite unpleasant conditions) is over and I tell him I’m passing along the Camaro which I priced at what I thought was a good price. Although not pulling any info from my file cabinet.
Well, we all have one, he’s quite a know-it-all, in fact I always jest and call him KIA. He starts ranting on and on about how I am so off on price. Starts spouting about the rarity, production numbers, etc. but of course did not take me up on my offering to him.
That brought us here. Unfortunately, posts seem to confirm, what he was saying could possibly be true. His interpretation of production numbers is that my vehicle is one of the 255 produced as a 2SS with the trim interior. It does have all the options listed in literature. Great Black paint with silver decals, don’t appear to be painted but might be. The only changes made were before I even drove it. Cold air intake, 3”SS pipes. KIA is a master show quality concourse paint specialist, so he talked me into blacking out the rear tail lights, (although I purchased a new set for him, to retain the originals. As I recall, he may have talked me into paining some chrome trim around exhaust outlet.
Well now KIA is all fired up, stating that the 255 represents manuals, automatics, coupes, and convertibles, colors, etc. I combat with “but I’m sure there were 1000’s ordered with identical options.”
Is there someone here who may be able to offer some information on these figures?
I’m comfortable with my value but would be disappointed if someone purchased it without interest, just to flip it. It won’t be listed publicly. My circle of car-guy acquaintances is probably large enough to make the task easy.
I apologize for the length, I just wanted to give an accurate description of this cars life. I also really don’t want to spend time to identify, contact, the appropriate source. Been there, done that, and sometimes the results can add more confusion.
Thanks in advance

ST,

I'm no expert but from what I understand you almost have to pre-order them ahead of time (read: big, big bucks for it to be worth anyone's while) to have them be unique enough that they will hold their value or appreciate in the future.

I could be wrong - have been before, and will be again every day - just ask my wife.

Question: What can I buy today that I can drive and will increase in value? Answer: Big fat goose egg. if there *was* something, I'd own that instead. So it comes down to how much fun can I have with this? :-)

OrangeVert, thanks for the reply.
When you state (read: big, big bucks for it to be worth anyone's while).
Is that something I can find here on the forum or are you speaking of add ons and upgrades. I'm not so sure there were performance upgrades like, blowers, turbos, cams, etc. available when ordering one.
I mean the sticker reflected all the additional packaging and wasn't cheap per say. I understand that some of the packaging could be done by the dealership. I may be wrong but I think the color style, interior, would have certainly be done before dealer arrival.
I'm also not looking to realize any profit from the sale. Along with some minor upgrades, I have it priced at less than half of it's sticker price. I just don't want to position it where someone is not interested in purchasing and enjoying the car.
Mistakes? I'm as old as dirt but it never fails that I learn something new each day.

Aftermarket modification do not help the value of a car, in fact they probably hurt it more than they help it when it comes to collectability because most people want factory stock when they are looking for a collectible or future collectible. Gen 5 Camaros will not be sought after collectibles for another 20-25 years. All you need to do is look at Gen 3 values to tell you that. Gen 3's are just now starting to show up on the radar of collectors. That being said only select Gen 3's such as 5.7 IROC's and a couple earlier Z28's and the Gen 3 Z28 Indy Pace Car are they only ones that are seeing a decent uptick in values currently. Keep in mind these are mass produced vehicles, just because we find them special does not mean anything in the overall big picture.

Bottom line a car is only worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. There is a big difference between asking price and a real world sold price. I picked up my 2012 2SS convertible in early January of this year, it had just 5,000 miles on it. The window sticker was still in the glovebox and it stickered for over $47,000. I purchased what was probably one of the cleanest and lowest mile 2012 SS's out there and I paid only $23,500 plus taxes. People should just enjoy their cars and not worry about "future values"...if you are worried about future values then you need to start looking at cars that are at least 30 years old, those vehicles have a better chance of appreciating rather than depreciating, but there is still no guarantee.

I have a 2011 1ss convertible , and it’s last 6 digits of vin are 208947 which I understand it’s build number. On the build info the number produced for that year was 106,987. Does anyone know why my build number is greater than the total produced ? Thanks. Ps: some of the warning labels on the car are written in Asian languages ,and the vehicle parts tag in trunk has no paint code or primer code if that makes a difference.
