Well based on feedback here's the latest. I stretched the cabin a bit toward the front and back but not as radical as was suggested. I tried putting in the c-pillar quarter panel on the top but it still doesn't look right, and it puts back the 3/4 rear view blind spot for the driver. Not sure about trading driving visibility for styling, but I'll play around with it some more.

This is the front that came to mind when I read Oldfriend's suggestion. When moving the headlights towards the outside I had the issue where the grill opening was so narrow I had to either make the headlights smaller, or I chose this option; making a cutout into the lower bumper area so the headlights would fit. It's different but I kind of like it.

This new shape likes the darker colors much better than the previous shape did.

I've been putting all my efforts into the sides and front so the back has been just sitting there. I'll see about copying the style from the front where one of the tail lights goes outward to also be the side light. It will be interesting to see how this shapes up.

Great feedback/suggestions everyone!

Based on your original drawing, I can honestly say I see a little bit of all the big threes pony cars mixed in. The front from camaro, the front fenders from corvette, the side swoop body lines scream dodge at me, and the rear has that old school mustang feel. Personally I wouldn't say camaro for this particular design tho it has more mustang in it from my view. It has a mid engine look to it with that long trunk lid. If you were to move the cabin back more I think that it would eliminate the fast back mustang look and add to the traditional visually forever long hood of the camaro. I also think your missing the camaros traditional "hips" on the rear quarter panels. If you don't know what I'm talking about get in any camaro and look in the side view mirror at the rear quarter. Horsepower bearing hips right there. In your design they blend together somewhere between what dodge has done on their recent muscle car attempts and fancy richpants European super car. Lastly the canopy I know is based off the p-51 but the camaro tends to lean towards a flatter roof line. You've got a lot of corvette bubble going on up there. Maybe flatten the roof out a little?

I personally would love to see a spoiler on soon (I know you said aero was in works) but one thing I personally will voice that I don't like on any car.. Is a pointy front end. And this design has lots lol. Constructive criticism aside and on to personal preference I do not like the front bumper because it rolls to a point both vertically and horizontally. Too much. I think it should have a distinct edge to define the front and side of the car. Aerodynamics be damned!! The grill has a triangular shape to it currently, kind of curios to see what happens if you squared it out more?

Either way, bravo sir.

I like some of the elements in your sketches. Keep working on the design exercises and do not be swayed by negative comments.

The sketches are showing a basic form of a design idea, but with some more renderings in either a 3-d format or with volumed shapes, the ideas can form into more realistic body shapes.

So keep at it; Additionally, its good to get inspiration from past successful designs. Remember to stop short of borrowing a whole design, and instead use elements to influence a new shape.

I think the round headlights have to go on your design. Looking into the future and even on some cars now the headlights will likely be more the size of what you have for the signals. I believe if you changed the look of the headlights it would completely change the look of the front view of the car. IMO

Looks like a Corvette with a High roof line. Front is too small for the back, and I doubt there's enough room for the engine with such a low hood.

A couple of the last images in this thread are one step away from a Character in the next CARS movie.

idk. I'd try to refine your style more.

early version looks like a bad cross between a old corvette and a charger... newer rendings are like you threw in some ques from an 66 shelby cobra body styling .....

I think smaller wheels and lower profile tires would be best for the proportions of this car....different style wheel also.

When suggested to move the lights more to the outside corner , I was also trying to have the lights more like this high tech SK

I'm tellin ya man. Flatten the tops of the front fenders and hood. Without the curve it will look 100x better. Right now it looks like if you sit in the driver seat, you'll see a hill of sheet metal in front of you

looking at it directly from the front it looks like you have it tapered in too much in front of the wheels. Widen the front end by the wheels to see less of the front tire.

I'm trying to minimize lens distortion in the renders by using different cameras with longer focal lengths. The normal length is 35mm in the editor window which is where I've been taking most of the snapshots. That tends to have a wide-angle fisheye effect which distorts the apparent proportions of things. I've created 2 additional scene cameras; a 55mm and 105mm and I'll be using those from now on if possible to help show the proportions more realistically.

I've made a lot of small adjustments; tweaking lots of things in the fenders, roof, front, etc. It's starting to look pretty good in other colors including metallics, non-metallics and darker colors which is a good thing.

For Oldfriend: I know you said you were thinking of the headlight/sidelight filling the entire space (which can be done) but I followed what was on your original drawing and I actually like that better. It has a more sophisticated look to me than a corner-fill would.

I know people have been saying they want "hips" but this particular style just doesn't allow for that look. The reason is the mid-waist "pinch" is at the front of the door instead of the back. The style I'm using allows for better driver visibility; especially to the right corner. Switching back to the traditional style raises the window sill at the front of the door several inches, reducing forward/corner visibility and you're back to that "sitting-in-a-cave" feeling. I put a pretty big fender flare in the back to help fatten up the proportions back there so maybe that will help those who wanted the other style.
