I don't see me having any need to use OnStar and also wish it came as an option rather than having no choice. I would like to do as 63falcondude did - decline it and not have it activated (I would love to do the removal as described in the related thread but I feel like that's above my skill level).

My question is if I do that (decline the set-up) can I still use my phone through my car, ie: will the microphone be affected, as I've heard that it is associated with the OnStar?
Thanks!

Not setting it up is not the same as "turning it off". Microphone will still work. Pulling the fuse will cause the microphone to also be turned off. Removing the radio board will not affect the microphone.

btw, not setting it up just means you wont have access to onstar features. It's still talking to gm and can receive commands from them.

Well I'm keeping mine, unless I decide to commit some heinous crime. It could be used to establish ur alibi! "Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, this clearly shows my client was no where near the crime scene!" Case dismissed!!
Ok I know I watch too much tv.

Recently cell phone evidence based on tower "pinging" is being proven to be highly unreliable. "Junk science" I believe they called it. Just sayin'.

I suspected this would be my answer, thanks for the confirmation!

I know this thread has been dead for some time but NOW!!!!
"The CIA reportedly also has studied whether it could infect vehicle control systems for cars and trucks, which WikiLeaks alleged could be used to conduct “nearly undetectable assassinations.”"

Source = https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...=.1cb2ff4720e0

LOL.. Didn't mean to fuel the fire. Very interesting article though.

Yet another reason to buy a manual transmission. CIA hijacks your car, pop it into neutral!
