The Mistress is insured on a separate policy (Grundy) from the rest of the family vehicles, so if they were to turn it back on at least the "guilt by association" risk for me is mitigated

Back in 2017 they auto-enrolled you in all the features like remote start, find my car, and Safe Driver when you turned on the Onstar for the 1st time and got access to their 3month trial of all the features. I disabled safe driver after I saw the first report. Never saw it re-enable by itself.

I opted out immediately when I picked up my car in April 2020, still not on, never one report to anyone. Nothing. It never magically opted me back in. Same on our 2018 Traverse, opted out day one, has remained that way since.

Not sure how so many are suddenly being opted back in "automatically". Odd......

When I bought my 2023 the salesman kept hounding me to download the app to my phone. Even a week later. He was very motivated to get me to do so….freaked me out. No way.

It might happen when the OnStar (myChevrolet) app updates itself, if you guys aren't using, don't allow it to update or never installed it in the first place, it would make sense you don't get enrolled back again.

Newest I will go now is likely a 2013 ZR1 - and yes, I will be disabling any OnStar equipment on it.

What pisses me off is I "un-enrolled" in Smart Driver at least once, and opening the app again this morning, I found it enabled. I am 100% certain I did not voluntarily or consciously re-enroll.

What's more annoying is that the my.chevrolet.com page and the My Chevrolet app seem to be continually changing, options moving around. There used to be an option to share information with Onstar Insurance, which I can no longer find, and have had to opt out of previously.

I'm hoping GM gets the shit smacked out of them for this.

That, I think, is a breach of data privacy. Whether an "oops" or not, that's going to get GM some attention unless they can prove they have the right to re-enroll people in data sharing like that.

Need to make sure I'm not enrolled in this. Was planning on getting a new 2500 later this year. Makes me want to just switch to an F-250. I like the looks of the AT4 HD a lot better but the interior of those F-250s are...*chefs kiss*

I called and opened a case with GM's "Connection Center" this morning asking them how I was re-enrolled, and how to prevent (stop) this from happening again in the future.

The rep I spoke with was unable to explain how I was re-enrolled, but confirmed my Camaro is showing as NOT enrolled presently. The call was documented and I received a case number to reference in the future so I can continue to track the issue and have documentation that it was brought to GM's attention.

This should be....interesting.

Just curious....

I have a 2011 Camaro....Never had an On-Star account for this car.

I have a 2017 Impala....Never had an On-Star account for this car. (It did come with a five year Wi-Fi hot spot, diagnostics, etc. which has expired through the MyChevroletOwners account. There was no free trial for On-Star and I have never paid On-Star a dime.) The owners account shows that my vehicles "Are not connected").

I have never downloaded any app, Smart Driver app, or whatever to my Smart-Phone. True confessions, I only recently got my first Smart Phone within the last year...lol...

My question is, has my data still been collected for either of these vehicles? Does this app need to be downloaded to a smart-phone for data collectionc(and re-sale) to occur?
Is there a model year cut-off or whatever?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Based on reading recent articles, a used vehicle can be enrolled and will still be enrolled when a new owner buys it. If there have ever been connected services on the car, it may be enrolled.

If you are concerned, it sounds worth checking on. Maybe contact GM to ask about your vehicles.

It's off on all my vehicles and the only one new enough to even be able to activate it is my 2020 Acadia. I killed it when I first bought this ZL1 and saw they recorded 70 some hard acceleration and hard brake events in one week when I only drove it 7 miles. That told me their interpretation of hard accel and braking are not based on reality. All this insurance reporting I saw later so glad I did turn it off.
All that said, it will likely get to a point as we slide deeper and deeper into big brother control, that you will be tagged as high risk if you don't subscribe to their game. My insurance company pounds me constantly to get me to use their app/dongle for a discount, lol.

WTF i bought my camaro used from a non-chevy dealer and never signed up for onstar - do I need to worry about this too?? Did you purchase your car from a Chevy or other GM dealer?
