Air Temperature gauge

My air temperature reading on the 7" screen seldom seems to be right , guy at the dealership said it takes half an hour driving to settle in. That doesn't seem right. Any other car I've had only takes a minute or 2. Any thoughts?

It's the placement of the sensor which doesn't allow a lot of airflow so it is not exposed to the elements and change every two seconds as you drive.

This inaccurate reading could cause a driver to have less tire grip than expected, especially in a 1LE/ZL1. Possibly resulting in a crash. Lets recall every car ever made that has an air temp sensor...

Most cars have trouble with reporting true outside temp, but so do many outside thermometers.

The sensor can't be somewhere that heat is trapped, near paint (in case color choice is black), under the car, in the nose, where A/C or heater could affect it, etc.

I'm thinking that the bottom of the side mirror hsg would be about as good as you could get.

Mine settles in after a few minutes of driving over ~30 mph. If you're comparing it to a temperature reported by a weather authority several miles away from where you are, it will rarely match. Your car is taking readings from fairly close to the ground where it's affected by many things including hot pavement.

Now if you're 20+ degrees off from other temperature readings in the area, then there's something wrong.

Usually my gauge is on the warm side, and if the car's been running and I get back in after it's sat for a bit, the gauge can be really off (+10F or more!). Obviously the gauge isn't placed somewhere ideal in the engine compartment and/or requires circulation of air to register a realistic reading. Takes several minutes until it's close to actual air temps.

They day in question the gauge said 19 degrees C. and after driving for a bit I phoned my wife and asked her what the reading was for the local weather and she said 27 degrees C. so that's a pretty large difference. My other vehicles would register close to the local reports within a couple minutes. i.e 2012 Buick Enclave and 2010 Tiguan.

Mine is pretty accurate - its more of a feels like temperature vs weather report temp (such as an Iphone).

I too complained about this, first drive of the day it always 10 deg low for about 15-20 min.

Also if I wash the car it is automatically 10 deg low on the readout, weird.

My 96 Bonneville never does this and is always accurate, must be a software issue.

I never even look at mine ,in Phoenix it is either hot or hotter. If you burn yourself getting the car then it's over 114 if not it's under 114.

The temp sensor is in front of your radiator, should be on the right side brace. Make sure its still mounted properly. After a car wash, its going to read off until you drive it for several miles. Water is cooler than the heat so it will drop the temp. If it continually is off, have the dealer replace it.

It happens to me twice. Stop and go traffic on the Freeway, temp outside is @ 90 and the screen show 137. When I saw it my first thought was WTF?
Second time outside temp is @ 82 and it was showing 98. Definitely something is not right.
