Why did the deer cross the road?

To get hit by the camaro! I swerved so I did not hit it head on. My question is when I talk to my insurance people(Progressive), what details should I ask for on how to repair it? Seems to be no engine damage and it seems to drive fine. The passenger door does not open from the outside. Should I ask for a new door and quarter panel?

It's really their option as to how they repair and negotiate with the shop that's fixing it. A reputable shop will probably replace both the door and front fender. I'm not sure about the rear quarter...those can be a real bitch to section, but there's enough damage on the lines/louvers, etc that they may do it anyway. You'll get the entire right side of your car repainted, that's for sure.

Take it to a reputable body shop, one that you trust, get the lowdown on what needs to be repaired from them, and then give the estimate to your insurance. If you are like me then you will not go running around to get the insurance the lowest bid, just tell them that this is your shop, you trust them, and they should come across and take care of things.

Just take it to a few places and see which one will replace it all and go with it. Sorry this happened but I say all of us just hunt down deers untill they learn to get off the road

A buddy of mine who owns a body shop had a similar results from a guy backing into his Camaro. I'm not 100% sure if his front fender got hit but the door, quarter & right rear wheel were junk. He put a door & wheel on as well as an entire uni-side. That's the only way from what I've been told is to replace the whole thing, and it is the only way GM sells it. From the A pillar to the C pillar and the quarter & rocker all in one. Don't let the Progressive try and short cut it on you. Obviously you need to be choosy when it comes to picking a body shop, they are not all created equal. The best price is not always the best "deal."

Good Luck,
John

Dude that sucks. The passenger door not being able to be opened is a safety issue... and they should do whatever it takes to correct the problem.

Bring it to a shop that does alot of custom work and get a custom paint job out of it! And make sure you give the insurance agent some deer sausage! LOL

Might have been better to hit the deer full-on. Would have been "cleaner" to replace the front clip than the body panels and door. Did the same thing in my 72 Camaro years ago, but went into the woods and totaled the car. Been wanting another 70-73 ever since...

First off, if it is unavoidable and you know you're going to hit the deer or any other animal... hit the gas and take aim!!!

Second, DO NOT tell them you swerved to try and avoid the deer. In some cases they deny a claim saying it was "wreckless driving".

Finally, you don't have to get 2 estimates, make sure to get it fixed at the dealership, and make sure they're using OEM parts. That is your right by law.
