Electric car sales have now surpassed stickshift sales in the U.S.

Sad.

https://driving.ca/auto-news/news/el...les-in-the-u-s

"EVs rising to represent 1.9 per cent of total sales; and stickshifts falling to a low of 1.1 per cent by the end of Q3."

But I would bet a high percentage of that 1.1 percent is Mustangs and Camaros. I've got a manual transmission and I have driven one my whole life. And lets not forget the new Corvette no longer has a manual option. Although the new automatics are awesome performers I still don't want one.

Those EV's in California around the wild fires are doing a lot of good now that they've turned the electricity off.

It's sad to see the manual transmission fading away. I've never been able to purchase a manual because of different reasons, but I can drive a manual and the next performance vehicle I purchase I want it to have a manual in it. I guess I either have to hurry up and buy it or buy a classic.

Is this a big surprise? VHS tapes have surpassed stickshift sales. No one buys them anymore or takes the time to learn. It’s a done deal bro, we own the last ones.

Very few cars are offered with a manual option.

I know. I have a nephew and his parents bought him a Lancer EVO when he turned 16. He is now 19 and still does not have a license.

Sad but I think you're right. Uber and Lyft are partly to blame.
One of the reasons why I love to have my own cars is that I don't have to deal with the filth, germs, congestion, and the stereotype people of public transportation. Plus, the freedom of this country allows us to simply get in a car and GO somewhere. It's not that easy in other countries.

To comment on the OP, I wonder if there will be a time when NO car will have a manual transmission option. The only cars that come to mind that have manual transmissions are Mustangs, Camaros, Challengers, and a few base model economy cars. With talks about the Camaro discontinuing in 2023, we're probably only 10 years away from the LAST manual transmission car sold in the U.S.

I've had at least 6 manual cars over the past 30+ years. Good theft deterrent system.

The new automatics may have incredible performance, but what fun is that when you're out just tooling around by yourself? A manual is fun all the time, except in gridlocked freeway traffic or in lots of stop and go congested city driving. Even then, it's really not so bad and I'd take those tradeoff's for the fun to drive factor manuals provide.

I've owned a c6 grand sport auto and most recently a synergy green stick shift camaro ss. The vette was way faster, but the camaro is a lot more fun due to the addition al engagement.

They don't sell stick shift because they don't make them.
