Hoping it was a fluke, I removed the cap, wiped up the fluid, cleaned the silicone seal, and reinstalled the cap.

Now at just under 5k, the brake fluid around the reservoir seam is back again.

This was a problem on earlier 5th gens. A problem I thought GM had corrected with a revised cap and/or seal.

WTF GM, this has been a reportable issue going on 5 years now.

I think there is a service bulletin on that reservoir leak. I saw something about it browsing the net about a week ago. I didnt go into the details much because mine wasn't leaking but others have the issue.

My 2014 also weeps fluid, I just wipe it off every time I check the fluids and belts until my first service is due and let them addres it.

What's wrong with using the jug cap ? Most milk jug caps are made from LDPE which is compatible with the glycols and glycol ethers in brake fluid.
