My trans has shifted flawlessly from day 1. Even though the oem fluid has performed well for me, I did call both Tremec and Tick Performance to see what they recommended. Both said to stick with the oem stuff, so that's what I did

If it is worth mentioning - ever since the T56 came out, the Tremec really hasn't had a reputation for a cruising transmission. My Camaro was my first manual that I have had in awhile, and when I started thinking it was kind of crunchy going into 2nd, the advice I was given from a friend of mine who actually works at the GM Milford Prooving Grounds told me "These Tremecs are all like that. The synchros are really lightweight and the weight of the mechanism is much lighter than years ago. Don't flop the shifter into second - before pushing in the clutch, have a hold of the shifter with some pressure, and once the clutch is in, pull it all the way back with pressure until it stops moving"
Once trying to focus on it, I noticed it really wasn't that bad. When I get distracted from it, I notice I tend to not have as much luck.

I swapped to RP about 9 months ago. At first, it made a BIG difference, smooth as butter 90% of the time.
Now, it feels similar to the stock fluid again. I only get buttery smooth shifts about 50% of the time. Some say it isn't a big deal, but over time it kinda is. It does detract from the driving experience some when you don't get that nice clean click into each gear and instead are met with a notchy slightly crunch feel. My dream list for this car is a dual clutch, but that won't happen. I just can't do a traditional auto. For me its either a dual clutch or a manual.

It's been in 70s so it's been a lot better lately. For a cold climate it's a no go.

It’s the same resi as the clutch fluid. Old fluid affects my shifting more than trans fluid

The clutch fluid is shared with the brake fluid, not the tranny fluid.

Yeah we were talking about the brake fluid. To clarify: the old clutch/brake fluid effects my shifting more than trans fluid.
I change my brake fluid often because of the clutch and less about the brakes.

The kids are grown and moved away- so another pair of hands for a proper bleed are more difficult... gotta son-in-law that may be capable. Bought a Motive PowerBleeder but its just a PIA waiting to make a mess, IMHO. Anyone want one for a good price- I'm negotiable! Going over to Amazon now to get some Motul gear oil. Finally installing my Hurst shifter in a couple weeks and want change the tranny oil at the same time. Will report back as to results. Last edited by Ventmaster; 02-29-2020 at 07:49 PM. |

Nice the hurst is a longer install than usual but it’s a pretty fun easy job. Just moving stuff, if u have a impact it helps. The shifter feel is worth it. Hurst did good
