That is what I meant. Allow the vehicles to use an internet connection tied into your cellular service. This also allows apps like Android Auto to come with the vehicle as a primary navigation system, instead of the crap they use now.
Ah...

I don't have any use for "Apps" on my car - especially if the screen becomes a stripped down screen mirror of my phone. The less "software" in the car, the better the experience - especially since the GM Software Engineers produce such garbage.

I'm not sayin I'm just sayin.

It's mostly the cost of delivering those updates, maintaining update servers and having the bandwidth to deliver those updates that hinders manufacturers. If manufacturers figured there was a profit to be made, they'd jump all over it. Just integrating Apple or Google tech, that's going to cost them with licensing. I still like the idea of removing the head unit and just having a flat area where tablets or phones can be mounted. Imagine your cell phone just plugging into a flat area on the dash and it being your head-unit, navigation, media player. Not sure what's holding up manufacturers, but I guess it's probably licensing and liability (don't want a driver watching a movie while the car is moving).

That's because it doesn't have them.....(my '22 ZL1 at least)

With no PDR, it has "forward COLLISION warning / alert" which just beeps and throws a message on the DIC when you're about to run into a parked semi......

I find the navigation system in the car is absolute trash compared to AA.

Most of the time the in car navigation takes me the wrong way, or a different route, and the use of the system is a pain in the arse at best.

The car nav system doesn't even have the intelligence to use voice commands like AA.

I won't even mention how bad the location search is to find something you know is there.

In 2008, I lived in a newer development that had the main roads completed at least 2 years prior. My 2008 Acura MDX never recognized the road I lived on.

When a map update was available, I would read through the information that told of the various updates and that road was not recognized even in 2010-2011.

In fact, the road wasn't fully shown even on Google Maps until around 2010. This is one of the major reasons I have no interest in OEM navigation systems.
You guys just go ahead and keep using Android Auto or CarPlay, let's not turn this into yet another navigation thread. All I meant to say is the maps can be updated, the opposite is wrong information.

That's what you were talking about earlier where you have to pay to have them updated?

I wasn't implying anything otherwise, just that my navigation map is all sorts of wrong most of the time. I only really use it to read street names which it is better than AA at doing.

No. I was saying there's a 99.999999% chance the data shown on the DIC is internal to the car, and not coming from Waze or Google Maps.

I'll edit it to it's 100% coming from the car's Nav database!

The accuracy of the OEM databases is another story! I don't use it at all, and all three of our cars have GM Nav systems. I bet most people get the OEM Nav option because it just comes with the premium sound systems, which is what they really want.

I wasn't aware that the feature that locks the door automatically after you exit the vehicle with the key fob in your pocket. I literally had it parked at a few locations with the doors unlocked for extended periods. When I got to vehicle, using the unlock button would lock the doors. I need to turn that feature off as I don't like wondering if my doors are locked. I prefer locking them myself.
