E85 HP numbers - real or fake??
Hey guys, so I just installed e85, a cold air intake, and tune on my 2016 SS with an A8. The car had a baseline of 345 whp completely stock which is pretty surprising. I'm hoping this is just the dyno, as other cars that I have seen have baselined closer to 400 whp. After the mods, the car made 402whp/412wtq. If those numbers are right I gained over 50whp from just a tune, e85, and CAI. I was expecting more like 430whp but these gains are still great. What do you guys think? Is the dyno off or does my car just not make as much power as it should?

Was it the same dyno? Also which kind of dyno and do you have the dyno sheet?

The gain seems about right.

On the new 5.3 in the Silverado/Sierra, with no mods right from the factory, on E85 it makes about 20-30 more HP and around 50 lb.ft. more torque over the stock ratings on 87 Octane. Just from switching fuels. I believe the #s you got.

I'll be that guy to spare you from someone else jumping on that high horse.
A dyno is just a tool. Don't get hung up on numbers. Every dyno reads differently, etc., etc. Honestly, though, as hard as it is, don't get too caught up with the numbers themselves but, look at the overall gain you had. A baseline of 345 and going up to 402 is a solid gain regardless. If you're needing a shot of confidence, find a shop with a dynojet and have them run the car--the numbers might be more in line with what you're looking for.

50rwhp gain is pretty good. I wouldn't have expected that much.

57HP. Almost 60HP....sounds good to me
My math for those mods going in would be 30 E85 20 Tune 10 CAI You're good.

I can agree with that synopsis. Especially being a summer time tune. You can mix the numbers up a couple here and there but the total seems right.

It doesnt matter, dynos are just a tool to tell you what gain you made, he added 57hp which is a great gain from a few mods. If you take the SAE rating of 455hp then he's now running 512hp at the motor, which is again a great number.
If you want to end up with a high number you can take it to a dynojet and ask them to run stp, but it wont make the car any faster. |

20 from a tune? 30 from just e85? Realistically you're going to get about 10-15HP from just a tune and about 30 from e85 WITH A TUNE. I gained just shy of 20hp going from a 91 tune to a e85 tune, and I had supporting mods as well.

Thanks for the input guys. Even if the dyno numbers are low, the gains are still about right compared to what others have gotten so I can't complain lol
