Tried to color the interior SS badges

So I hated the red/orange SS badges on the seats and the steering wheel. I ordered some color matching paint to my Hyper Blue 2SS and got to work. Came out OK. The paint matches well, but I couldn't get it to lay perfectly smooth. Still better than before though.

I thought about using vinyl, but didn't know if anyone made them. Probably a good option if it's available.

You don't need to wait to have it available, buy a sheet of $10 vinyl from metrorestyling.com , get an X-Acto knife, take a few passes at it and you'll learn. It's a great way to start modding....

My hands are not steady enough to cut it from a sheet of vinyl and have it look better than what it is now

You hardly need a steady hand. You place the vinyl sheet over the emblem and you cut (trace) on the indention. It's really not a difficult task. If you could paint in that small area, you can easily do a vinyl overlay.

Theres no way I could get the vinyl into the small recess and get the edges cut clean. If the emblem was flat it would be no problem. I tinted my marker lights with dark vinyl tint while on the car and trimmed them with a razor blade. They're flat so it was easy

You just need to try it a few times. Once you cut a piece that is the exact size of the insignia, a hair dryer will wilt the material To lay inside the edges of the emblem. Then you can slightly Tamp it down and easily cut the edges so that it fits right on the bottom surface of the emblem. And it doesn't have to be perfect. No one is going to get up and Scrutinize the emblem with a magnifying glass and see imperfections. You're the only one it's probably ever going to notice that it's colored…these are the type of mods that most other people don't even notice, only you know that you've done it.

You can do a badge with vinyl in five minutes.

It's hard to get paint to lay smooth when hand painting anything vertical. Also, aren't the emblems textured inside? Vinyl is pretty easy once you get the hang of it, but the color probably wouldn't match near as well as custom paint.

I think they look great.

The emblems are smooth inside. Maybe a little too smooth for the paint to adhere well.

Maybe I'm thinking of the border? Hard to remember these details from bed.
