Definitely faster than a lot of older stock models for sure, but comparing standards of today vs 10-20 years ago.

Theres little to no path for improving speed on a 4cyl model. If Chevy put out a turbo-4 Corvette...there would be a riot.

I spent some time updating the "Camaro Horsepower Through the Years" to include the Sixth Gen models for '16 & '17. The 'scoffed at' 4-cylinder Turbo has more power than every stock top model from 1971 to 1995. Sixth Gen also will have the widest HP range ever, with 375 HP between the 2.0L Turbo and the ZL1.

Why would anyone want this for 32.5k? Esp with 2016 2SS deals hovering close to that. If you must have a 4 cyl get a golf R or a WRX or anything else.

Another thing to keep in mind is that hp ratings until 1973 were SAE Gross ratings.

Starting in 1973 it was SAE Net.

In 2006 it was again slightly revised.

So official hp ratings in the height of the original muscle car era were severely overrated.

OTOH, the hp ratings today reflect the real, usable power spot on. Which tells you at 455 hp how freaking powerful just the SS is now.

It has been discussed in many other threads, but why does everyone feel the need to have an SS/V8/Supercharged beast? Not everyone wants OR needs all that unused HP. In reality, how often does an average/above average driver "open the throttle" and book it? How many track/drag it? In reality, not very many and those that do open it up probably only do so 1-2% of the time. The rest of the time the average commuter is stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Remember that even though the 2016 1SS/2SS is in the $31-$34 range, the 2017 FIFTY adds over $5600 to make it a FIFTY over a regular 2017. A 4-cylinder Turbo with 275 HP is nothing to scoff at! Neither is the V6 with 335 HP. My V6 FIFTY MSRP was $38,9xx, $36,500 with College Discount. Chopped off another $2,000 with incentives and Farm Bureau so I Paid about $34.5k and my trade-in paid the taxes. Most of my co-workers and people I meet think I paid over $50k - they do a double take when I tell them how wrong they are. I even tell them they could get a base model for $19k right now and their eyes pop!

I got what I wanted and am totally satisfied with a V6. And I'm sure a 4-cyl would have been more than adequate as well. I had a 110HP Honda Civic Hybrid - 90HP Gas Engine and 20HP Electric Assist. That had plenty of get-up and go when I needed it. So pointing the finger at a 275 HP 4-cylinder Camaro and laughing is ridiculous. And, a FIFTY 4-cylinder is as gorgeous as an SS FIFTY! On the outside, can you tell a 4 from a 6? Yes, WE can tell which are SS models, but most people can't and many just want a Camaro and think they are priced out of their reach when they really aren't.

Then there's the insurance, gas, (extra) speeding tickets, and other expenses that go along with an SS! I'm planning on keeping this one for a LONG time and those extras can mean the difference of looking at keeping or selling the car in a hardship. I live within my means and have no debt but the 2 Camaros so I have a lot of breathing room should something happen.

Being the Camaro and Corvette are almost identical under the hood, a 4cyl Vette just wouldnt fly, corvette community would leave in droves (Ive had 2 corvettes). I realize you bought it for the look - and yea, it looks sweet!, but you'll always want more....I regretted it EVERY time when buying a V6 muscle car.

Believe it or not, out of the 20 or so Camaros on the dealer lot...not a single 4cyl to test drive. Just not a high demand setup I guess.

My other half has a 4 cyl turbo BMW - works in a family car...sports car?...ehhh. Honestly when I was in my early 20s, would have jumped all over a car with 275HP over the other sh*t cars I owned - aka 80s Mustang, late 80s Nova and Triumph TR7 (anyone remember that?)

Yes, I owned a couple of GM v6s in the 80s, and the T4 is far, far superior. Those V6s were pretty sad, from a performance POV, and awful by today's standards. Unless there is really something wrong with the GM implementation, there's no reason a modern T4 shouldn't be good for a lightweight sports car (even if the newer V6s or V8s are better).

Having said all of that, I still haven't pulled the trigger on buying a car, but I'm considering cars with a T4, primarily...

Love my turbo. Plenty of power, very nimble. I couldn't be happier. It's a fantastic car. Old-school stereotypes love bashing the turbo 4. They just can't help it. I get it, but I also know this turbo 4 is one hek of a car.

Wouldn't consider that a huge discount considering it's a 4 cyl. These were going for somewhere between 21k - 25k last month on the 2016 models and the 50th anniv edition is almost a 6k upgrade so the total price does not look like a big discount.

Also I hate seeing red brake calipers only on the front two wheels instead of all four
