Major dilemma, looking for insight

Well, my ZL1 1LE order finally got pushed through. Now, had this been 5 months ago, I would have been ecstatic. But now the majority of my Camaro track days are behind me as I transition to wheel to wheel racing in the C5 w/LS7. I will undoubtedly still track the ZL1. Just not primarily.

Most here know that I have a '17 ZL1 already and am a total track rat. I don't put much consideration into the stiffer ride the 1LE offers. I can handle it on the street and it won't be my primary transportation anyway.

SO, the question is do I sell the ZL1 and continue with the ZL1 1LE purchase, or just stick with the ZL1 I have? Pros v cons...let 'em rip fellas (& gals). I appreciate all insight as I'm sure there is much I've not considered. The obvious is the $$$ hit on depreciation and new purchase taxes. It's going to be about a $20,000 swing in my estimation.

Note: My '17 ZL1 has 4,000 miles on it. It is in perfect cosmetic condition and I have all new OEM brake rotors, calipers, pads & lines ready to go in for a full refresh. NO other mods except a 1LE rear wing.

I'm facing the same dilemma only I don't have a ZL1 1LE on order. I'm looking to buy one off of a dealer lot. My ZL1 has a little over 4,000 miles too.

I'm going to go for it. I should have the ZL1 1LE within a few weeks.

It'll be my luck that GM will announce major advancements at the Detroit auto show or Daytona for the '19 model year. LOL

If money isn't a big issue, GO FOR IT!

Well shit Travis. I just found your thread. And here I thought I was the only genius looking to lose twenty grand, hehehe. I blame GM for their thoughtlessness

Since you have a race car for the track (the C5) that will be doing most of the track time, I'd lean towards keeping your current ZL1 and saving the estimated 20 thousand dollars. If the ZL1 was going to be the track car for you, then upgrading would be more tempting I think.

Once I sell the Maserati, I'm going to buy the Zl1 1LE and just have both in my garage.

The only reason to get the ZL1 1LE if you are a track guy who wants to have a very limited halo car that is at the pinnacle of track performance with a warranty from factory. Nothing else will make you happy moving forward knowing that the ZL1 1LE is the top dog in the food chain.

Keep the ZL1 unless you can come away with the 1LE for little to no money out of pocket. The Cars areant that different to justify a large financial hit IMO.

lol...I can't help as your situation leaves me scraping my head too. Heck I would complicate the matter even more by considering making the 17 ZL1 into the wheel to wheel & get the 1LE. To me, this would make one kick ass garage!!

I'm jealous of you guys who live close to road courses...having never done it, I'm dying to get an instructor up in Austin at the circuit america track. Most of my play money / time / vacation goes into bird / deer hunting & not quite ready to sacrifice the new passion for the primary. Dang it!!

LMAO. That was funny.

Thanks everybody else. All very worthy considerations. Ninetres, that rings loudly in my head. I am thinking the same thing. I may end up okay if a couple things work out with my dealer. If that happens, then maybe I pull the trigger just to have the newer car w/out track miles. Not that mine is abused, but who doesn't enjoy that new-car-smell.

I think I'll put the trigger point at $10,000 loss.

I'm negotiating with a couple dealers right now. My best deal so far is a 13K delta.

What do you think about the new spec C5 class for next year? Think it's worth ditching my LS7 and going backwards?

Yes...I just jacked my own thread.

That is tempting, bud. Share the details? I'm looking at high 50's for trade

OP Nice “For Sale” disquise! Anyway, sounds like motor has been run hard and put up wet despite new shoes. Being the track rat you are, you won’t be happy til you get the 1LE. Did you see the new Honda Civic R ran the ring just 2 seconds slower than the 2012 ZL1? For $35K you could seriously enjoy the sport on a regular Budget! Check it out on You Tube!
