Test this out on a 4 hour road trip, used Sport on the way there used over 1/2 tank gas.

If you "use the paddle shift 100% of the time", you are in "Manual" mode - not "Sport" mode (hence, the "M" on the display). In Sport mode, the transmission is fully automatic (no paddles) and simply raises the shift points for more rpms through the auto-shift cycle, and a firmer shift.

This makes no sense. Sport mode is fully automatic and unless you constantly slow down and then punch it to get it to go through the gears, freeway driving would not be the time to really notice the difference between "S" and "D".

Meant between Manual and Sport, for the rest. I'll correct it when I'm sober. There's a point in there somewhere.

Once I discovered what sports mode was and what a difference it made, I havn't put it is 'D' once since then. It just feels so anemic in D, but in sport mode it just comes alive.

This is something your dealer should have made you aware of, but they rarely do. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=307690

I like to drive in Sport Mode, but usually wait until the engine and transmission are warmed up before I switch over.
