ZL1s rims and car wash

i have no recollection of catching a curb or anything like that...but i do run my ZL1 through a drive through wash from time to time. Could this be a product of that? Just noticed today and its really got me mad

That sucks. But the wheels and tires are way to wide to have them in a car wash track. Only hand wash car washes or DIY.

Car Wash

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, however it states NOT to use car washes to clean and wash your ZL1. The wheels are farther apart in the rear than the front and too big to fit properly to fit in the tracts of a car wash. Hand wash only on the ZL1. Sincerly, The Deloach 27.

They told us right up front that due to the wide tires/wheels on the ZL1, DO NOT put it through your ususal automated car wash.

I would be pissed if that was my wheel. However, I would only be pissed at myself for being too lazy to wash the car in my driveway. Time to get a black marker until the wheel can be replaced.

I know what you mean. I washed my truck a few times in the 30's over the last few months, and it wasn't fun. The trick was to fill up the bucket with hot water so I didn't freeze so much. Then do my best to keep my clothes dry.

Ugh! I know that feeling all too well. Had my stock wheels chromed on my brilliant black 300C SRT8. Cut a corner entering a parking lot and felt the car shudder. I knew I'd curbed the wheels. Nothing worse than that sick feeling of wasting $1,000.

Owners manual states, page 1-18

Car Wash Guidelines
Notice: Automatic car washes are
not recommended for ZL1 models and 1LE performance packages.
Some car washes cause damage to the vehicle, the wheels, and the convertible top, if the vehicle is equipped. If the vehicle is driven through an automatic car wash that does not have enough clearance for the undercarriage and/or wide rear tires and wheels, the vehicle could be damaged. Verify with the manager of the car wash that the vehicle will fit before entering the car wash or use a touchless car wash. See Washing the Vehicle on page 10‐89 under Exterior Care.

the bumpers on the car washes are bolted on with a metal bracket. That is definetly damage from the car wash.

Wow that sucks, I've been though one here where I live a 100+ times now with no problems. We measured the track width and the back tires before I went through the first time though.

Either that, or just buy yourself a new rim. But, then you have to pay to mount/balance the tire and possibly an alignment.
Maybe you can purchase some black touch up paint and put some clear coat over that for a cheap way out. Good luck!
