While it is unpleasant to accept, manufacturing is not cheap in Australia. Holdens will continue to exist as imports to the market. Also, keep in mind that even foreign manufacturers don't build cars there. It's an unsuitable environment for long-term profitable production.

Wasn't there a rumored new El Camino that would have been a Holden deal or whatever?.....I would think that's out now, if it ever was gonna happen...

Nothing is wrong with GM. It's the fact that manufacturing in Australia is freaking expensive.

If you cared to pay attention, Ford pulled out first. Toyota is bound to follow. This isn't just GM being a jerk.

Reuss said the business case wasn't there for NA imports of the Ute.

Could you please explain how closing down Holden manufacturing is making the overseas market happy? Because near as I can tell, its going to make a lot of Australians unhappy. And last I checked, nearly all Australians live overseas.

Australians are already pissed off.

Although I find the fact that many are boycotting GM/Ford a little strange, since once Toyota pulls out there won't be any manufacturing period in the country. So what are they supposed to buy now if they boycott every manufacturer who won't build cars there?

Maybe they plan on emulating Cuba: just keep repairing the cars they already have, decade after decade.

There is now a weird rumor that GM will build a 2nd gen Chevrolet SS in North America and ship it over to Australia as a Commodore.

Might as well shipped it as a Chevy to Australia & retire the Holden name entirely . Australia should get some good models like the Camaro. This will make people to go the Chevrolet showroom in Australia.

There are no Chevrolet showrooms in Australia and the Holden brand has been around waaaaay longer than the Chevrolet brand has, in fact. It would be stupid to throw away that much brand recognition.

I saw this on another site:

Mitsubishi was the first to pull out of Australia in 2008
