Can i disconnect the factory radio and still have my heater controls?
I bought an aftermarket PIONEER DEH80PRS and im trying to avoid buying the Metra or Schoshe radio kit since ive heard of all the problems people have with them not working properly. Will my car run right if i unplug the factory CD player and also cut the radio display out to make room for the PIONEER? I know ill have to replace the radio eventually but im not sure if it will interfere with the heater controls if i cut the board in half? Im hoping this is possible somehow? John

The HVAC controls may work, but the Pioneer will not turn on because the turn on signal for the factory radio is through the CANBUS. You will need a module to convert the CANBUS signal to a 12 volt signal that the Pioneer needs. That circuit is part of either the Metra or Scosche kits.

Hmmmm.......ok, Can't I just run my own turn on and power wire to the Pioneer? I also want to cut the display off of the factory radio is this is possible without causing problems with the car or heater controls? Is the board all tied in together with each other?

You can just wire up the Pioneer old school style. All you need is a constant 12volts and ground and a switched ignition source. Or if you want it to turn off when you open the door like the factory radio, tap into the circuit feeding the power windows fir IGN power.

That's what I'm going to do..... I removed my gauges in front of the shifter and there's plenty of room. I don't have any lights on either but I can't turn off TC but I hardly ever did anyways.......
