Gas type influences mileage greatly

I've discovered something rather surprising about gas recently with my camaro, ethanol blended fuels give terrible mileage. Especially when itcomes Petro-Canada with their Wintergas which has an even higher mix of Ethanol.

Just to give you an idea, with Shell 91 I average 8.2L/100 at 120km/h versus 10.8L/100 with Petro-Canada 87. This is with the V6.

Shell 91 contains 0% Ethanol while Petro-Canada 87 has upwards of 10%. If you want Ethanol-free gas you'll need to buy 91+ at Shell/Ultramar/Esso and maybe some other stations. Almost all stations use Ethanol blends for their 87 and 91.

I tend to romp around in my M6 SS. Try 17+ liters for 100km. Good thing I park it 6 months of the year. LOL

I'm mainly focused on highway cruising mileage, I also average terrible when it comes to city driving.

It's almost impossible to speed on the highways with this car and not get a ticket so I look at 120-130km/h mileage which is surprisingly very very good with the right gas on the V6.

Mine has not been reset since I drove it off the lot. 5K on it and no real long road trips yet.

Ethanol sucks! The only vehicles I have that don't seem to care are my bikes. They are highly tuned and mileage is not really a focus for me with them (well maybe the Monster as it only has a 3.5 gal tank!).

The cars hate ethanol and mileage is much worse in them. I haven't driven on ethanol in the Camaro yet as all it has had in it is Shell/Chevron and they haven't made the switch here yet (we are running a RFG blend here and they don't list what that contains). The only other major brand (to me) Union76 uses ethanol and states it on the pump which they are required to do by law. I stopped using because power and mileage are worse on it.

So petro-can 91 is full of ethanol also? Would have liked to stay with a top tier gas station but we only have a few stations where I live.

Yup. Ethanol has less energy per volume than gasoline. This is normal response to higher ethanol blends in a non-ethanol-dedicated engine.

Any idea on the Petro Canada 94 stuff? Looks like stations near me are getting ready to have it (or already do).

SS 6 speed with any 91 octane in 5th or 6th highway with 7000km and one oil change done

90k 7,1
100k 8,1
110k 10
140k 11.5

30-60k city stop/go 13-16

588km computer anticipated mileage with last fill up based on my driving habits which is ?? 11L/100 ....I think

The 94 octane at Petro Canada (PC) stations IS the Sunoco Ultra 94. PC bought Suncor (Sunoco Canada) and is slowly converting all the Sunoco stations to PC's. So in most cases the PC stations you see right now that have Ultra 94 used to be a Sunoco station. But some PC's are upgrading their pumps/tanks to get the Ultra 94 (requires a new in-ground tank).

Regarding the better mileage. 2 things at work here. Higher octane gives you a hotter, cleaner burn (more bang for the same volume) and accordingly you tend to get increased power and better mileage. The other thing is as someone already said, Ethanol produces less power per same volume than petroleum. This is why high octane fuels usually have little to no ethanol in them.

If your car is tuned for 87 run it off 87. if its tuned for 91+ give it that. sure u may get better milage from the 91 but your also paying more for the gas there for getting the same $/km than you would with 87.
my SS get 10l/100km being in boost all the time. gotta love turbos power when u want it fuel mileage when u need it.

I've run nothing but 94 octane from day 1.
My mileage really hasn't improved since day 1.
It has been bad since day 1.

Sweet car though! lol.
