Running with all nannies off

Anyone? I normally run in Race. Wondering about those that routinely run with everything off (holding the button for ~12s or so)?

I usually will always turn everything off unless the track is damp/wet. If you're running OEM tires I find Race works pretty well for the track, but turning everything off and hitting a perfect lap will get you a few more tenths because you can rotate the car better in the corners.

I've also compared Race with everything off for Hill Climb events and it's not even close, PTM race is roughly 2 seconds slower in that scenario.

At some point it will hold you up big time. I've run within .8 of my best 3R laptime with it on, but it was a hard plateau. Off topic - the PTM WET eating is very good.

My best lap times have been with all off, button hold for ~5 seconds. But I don't have 650 hp. Just be careful that first out lap on new cold tires on a cold track. May want to start that first session in race.

I run with everything off, '22 SS 1LE A10. First thing I noticed was the corner entries felt less bound up (eDiff). Power-on corner exits will require throttle management skills. These cars DO NOT rely on all the electronic gizmos to make them fast. They are fantastically sorted out and will progressively break away when you do cross the line. This is especially, if not solely true with the OE tires and suspension because that is what they were tuned with.

But, don't be a bull in the china shop with inputs and style. It can still bite you, the laws of physics always apply. You can be aggressive but don't drive way over your head, just like any other vehicle. Seasoned drivers who can recognize crossing that overdriving "red mist" threshold will have not issues. I don't recommend all off for newbies until they've gained experience running near the limit and/or have crossed the grip threshold and have recognized when the car's nannies have intervened. Having the PDR is valuable here as you can view those instances later.

As previously mentioned, 650HP would be a different story I'm sure!

Race mode is definitely restrictive but I've been able to make it a little better.

In the HP Tuners file for the car I disable power hop which cuts power if it detects that the rear wheels are not contacting the asphalt. This can become an issue when you use the curbing on track. With Powerhop enabled I can be on the curbing pressing the gas and ...nothing. With it disabled I get a little bit of drive back. It's still somewhat restrictive but for me it's worth the extra insurance of knowing if I get tired towards the end of a 20 minute session I won't make a silly mistake under power.

Every journalist test that I can recall having read all say that the quickest lap times came with the gizmos turned off.

All my lap times on the Camaro6 board are with SPORT1 engaged.

I'm interested to see what i've learned, but at the same time... interested in keeping the Camaro shiny and undented.

Great feedback. I have run with the nannies off but its been some time. It does feel like it's holding me back with more understeer than the car's balance would suggest or accelerating out of tight corners when some rotation under throttle would be nice.

I do remember it being tricky getting the power down out of the hairpins and turn 20.

Wet mode is amazingly good. Actually had a lot of fun during the last rainy weekend.

I have always run in RACE PTM mode and have really noticed the last 2 events it holding be back on corner exit especially. I guess next track season I need to finally put my big boy pants on and run it all off and see how it effects my lap times. As I seem to have hit a hold on lap time progression.

I usually run in Race PTM until later on when I’m warmed up and I go to all off. You’ll Notice where you actually can put more power down vs PTM cutting in.

Same, corner exit especially, but also mid corner if you are looking for a little rotation. The car just feels oddly held back.

Excited to "progress" to all off.
