That's good news. I was inside a professional chop shop back around 1988. It was amazing. The guys working there could take a stripped Camaro frame and rebuild the entire car in a couple of days. You couldn't tell it had ever been worked on.
Of course, I had no idea that it was a chop shop at the time. My best friend had a Firebird that needed to be painted. He had met a guy who worked at this place, and the guy offered to paint it cheap, after hours. We took it over there and dropped it off. The story was, they were "rebuilding salvaged cars." The guys who worked there actually believed this. The Firebird got painted, but it took several weeks, and yes, my friend paid for it and got it back. During this time, we would always stop in to check on any progress and bug the painter to get it finished. About two months later, the FBI pulled in with several semi trucks, arrested everyone there and filled up the trucks with all the parts they had in the warehouse. No charges were filed against the painter or other employees. The truth of the story was that the owner of the business was stealing Camaros and stripping them in another location. The frame and body would be abandoned. Then, the parts were shipped to the warehouse. The owner would go to insurance auctions and buy the stripped frames, and get a clean title that way. Then, the cars would be reassembled in the warehouse we'd visited. Then the cars were resold in another state with a 100% clean title. Back then, there was some kind of loophole where certain states didn't issue salvage titles, so these cars were clean titled. I will never forget that warehouse. I have never seen so many Camaro parts in my life. Everything was organized, everything was nice and neat. There was one rack with nothing but door panels. Every color, every style.

I am very happy to hear this. My custom ordered 2013 1LE was stolen in December from an acquaintances driveway (in Pittsburg) in the middle of the night . No alarm, no broken glass. They found it 5 days later fully stripped and left on the side of a road in Oakland. Engine, transmission, seats, doors were removed. If it's the same guy - hope he gets the book thrown at him -

He is done guys, it's party over for him. Warrants, battery on a peace officer, parolee on the run, and 4 counts of auto theft, posession of stolen property, and obviously priors. If this is the same guy (I'm sure it is) boy oh boy is he about to hate life. I think most bay area Camaros are safe now with this turd off the streets.

Hmmm, is it the same in Chicago too? I grew up in the Oakland Hills (Skyline blvd) Chabot park estates subdivision. My parents were thankfully very well to do and we had a 94605 zip code. Our family home is well into the low 7 digits with virtually zero crime, and hoa. However our same zip code (although quite a ways away) has ghetto crime ridden 'hood's. My point is Oakland is not all like that trust me.

As much as I'd like to believe that. I don't this guy could steal as many Camaros that have been getting stolen lately on his own.

I'm originally from Antioch, CA so this story hits home for me. I lived there for the first 20 years of my life until I entered the military. Glad to see this guy was caught. I've heard about random Camaro thefts throughout the Bay Area in the past couple of years. Maybe this guy was involved in those too...
