Trans fluid for SS 1LE M6
Uggh, I know this has been beaten to death - but I am considering changing the transmission fluid at or around the 1500 mile mark. I'm convinced that the OEM tranny fluid sucks ass. Based on past reviews from other owners, I've pretty much narrowed it down to either the AMSOIL Signature Series ATF or the Redline D4 ATF. I use AMSOIL for the engine oil and am happy with it, so my initial lean is towards the AMSOIL - but I'm seeing a lot of Corvette owners are big on the Redline D4. I don't plan on tracking it much, I'm more concerned about smooth shifting for daily driving. Just interested in hearing which one is more preferred and why? Thanks!

When it comes time to change the transmission and differential fluids in the 1LE I'll certainly look at Redline first. Of course both of my cars are manuals, not automatics.

Meanwhile, if you actually go to the AMSOIL site and search by vehicle - AMSOIL Torque-Drive ATF is what is listed as the recommended tranny fluid for the LT1.

I have heard others speak very highly of Mobil 1 Synthetic LV ATF HP.
When I change mine here soon, that is what I'm going to use. My 1-2 shift is pretty stiff when the car is cold. |

Amsoil is a supplier of oil to Chevy most likely that's what is in the trans now.

redline for me was hard to shift while car was cold, took a good warmup / quick drive for it to feel better, i ended up swapping back to OEM stuff, might try the amsoil here soon.

I used Amsoil, a much better shift feel over the stock fluid.

I tried redline and also found it notchier than OE until it gets nice and warm. I'm planning on OE or Tremec fluid next since I've heard good things about it.

OEM sucks, sucks harder when it's cold. I've tried Mobil1, Redline D4 and Royal Purple Syncromax (all better than OEM) but the Syncromax is the smoothest shifting 1 - 2 and everywhere in between. You can get a six quart case on Amazon for under $100, takes just under four.
