Back from the tune shop
Hey everyone, got my car back from The Shop last week and wanted to share my results and get some opinions.
The build: 2018 ZL1, whipple supercharger with 3.25 upper and 10% lower. TSP catless headers with Borla Atak exhaust. Rotofab CAI with Katech throttle body. Lingenfelter big bore HPFP, DSX low side aux pump, FIC +30% injectors. weapon x coolers alky control methanol single nozzle setup. Mighty mouse catch can There might be some other stuff that I'm forgetting too. It's tuned for E60 and made 700whp and 677wtq through a mustang dyno which I'm happy about but I do have a few questions about where I should go from here. Have the rotofab, throttle body and stock heads become a restriction? Would I be better off with a big gulp and a 103 or larger throttle body? I'm still on the fence about doing a cam and heads because up until now everything I have done can be easily taken off if I were to ever trade the car in. What does everyone think? Should I just man up and go full send? |

The stock size throttle body definitely needs to go! Restrictions on the inlet side of a PD blower are bad news. A Big Gulp is not a bad idea, heck I’ve got one...lol. But the TB is the bigger restriction at this point.

The TB is holding you back. Even a 95mm LT5 TB will make a huge difference given all your other upgrades. The tune mod for the 95mm TB (without BG intake) is literally a 2 minute change and can be done remotely if you have HPTuners

I’d imagine you would Dyno higher, even on a Mustang Dyno. I think the TB is holding you back and for sure I’d go with the rotofab BG. How big are the headers?

The fuel systems mods you have would really shine with a cam and yes the stock TB is a restriction. If your not going to do a cam and your not low or high side limited i would go with the LT5 95mm TB, its cheaper and will meet your needs.

I thought that was brand specific that rubbed, but not 100% positive of that.

How do you actually use the car? How long are going to keep it? Are you financially able to fix it if (when) stuff breaks? Those are the questions I think you need to answer before you add a cam / heads. FWIW, I agree with the above posts about needing a larger TB. I also think you are right on the edge of actually needing a Big Gulp right now.

Were you spray the methanol? I have a whipple 3.5 stock lower 1 7/8 rotofab and a low side voltage booster. I was only able to get e40 and made 698. On fuel only 665. I’m kind of in the same place you are. Iv been told heads aren’t needed but I keep thinking all the money is already spent pulling them. For the $1000 is the few hp worth it? With a cam for fueling 800s are a easy step

re
+1 on 2" Kooks, no rubs, or other issues.
I just switched to Big Gulp from regular Gulp and had a re-tune from different tuner and picked up 30hp, but according to tuner, most of that was from him. I do have the stock Mamo-ported TB and it looks waaay out of place now(restrictive)...so she's going back for a 103 and Jokerz ported supercharger. Will report back when i get numbers. It's going in tomorrow for the Boost Chiller install, so will report on those number changes as well. Getting hot/humid in MidWest so should see some returns on this...
