Finally made the jump from my 17 SS to a 17 ZL1, Best. Decision. Ever. (and some ?s)
So I finally sold my 17 mosaic black A8 SS and picked up a 17 mosaic black A10 ZL1 (I know, I'm a glutton for punishment re: keeping it clean) from South Carolina on Friday (private party purchase). Then drove it back to Chicago. All I can say is WOW, I can see why everyone here says that you'll grin every time you get in. It's like they took the SS and ironed out all the issues and added a hell of a lot extra power. This car handles, looks, sounds, and just feels phenomenal. I'm even impressed with the gas mileage, with the right throttle management I'm actually getting BETTER mileage than in my SS. The seats, while stiffer than I'd like, are actually pretty comfortable, and the sound system is much better than the stock SS one. Not to mention the HUD and lane change assist.
That being said I did run into a few issues on my pretty long journey home. The car had around 3.5k miles on it when I picked it up. About halfway up (somewhere in Tennessee) I pulled over just to look everything over and realized that the original front spring spacers that are used for shipping the car were still there!! Whoever sold the original owner the car were idiots. I was able to jack the car up and get them out, but does anyone know if driving around with them for that long could have warped the spring and/or damaged the MRC shocks? I'm also noticing a bit of a rattle from the rear right when I go over bumps from time to time, almost sounds like a speaker cover rattling, or some other interior piece, almost like a coke can rattling in the cupholder. Any thoughts? |

Yes, people at dealerships usually aren't the most intelligent people in the world. I would think the car would be fine, but you might should have someone check it out if you notice anything funny or just for peace of mind. Congrats on the new car. I think the ZL1's look 100% better than the regular SS. I'm thinking of buying an SS but after renting one yesterday I realized the car is kind of boring. It has decent power but just not that exciting or fun to drive. I think you will love your new ZL1 and I hope you have lots of fun with it!

Are they still installed in that image? The front tire gap looks pretty big but it might be the angle of the dangle.

Congrats!!
One thing to note...since its a 2017, it might also need to have the front springs swapped out for the correct ones to get the "correct" ride height. Doubt the previous owner had that done since the spacers were still in there! I'd have the dealer check the front sway bar end links for play as well. There is a TSB out there to replace the nuts to get rid of a front end rattle (I had to to that on my '18 within the first 500 miles).

Mine had the spacers in it also. There is no damage probably. I had the loose sway bar checked. There was very minor correction needed on one side and it is tight.
Sometimes, as I have found on other cars, there is a loose feeling with strut top bearing mount when the car drops. But through many changes of that bearing(7 times on my VW), I have found it is only completely tight when brand new so I quit changing it. So that second "bump" feeling is normal as the rubber mount is flexing up and down. Congrats on the ZL1. It is the best sports car I have ever had and have had several and enjoyed them all but the enjoyment of this car cannot be topped: mostly.

11,000 miles on mine and no rattles or bad sounds. I did have the swaybar linkage issue that so many here had. That did cause some sound. Dealer fixed at no cost. Just had to tighten a few bolts in the suspension.

I think it is on this site. Try to search it. I had that TSB number when I went to the dealer since it was so new and they looked it up and performed the work pronto.
