Street/track oil question

The manual says to change the oil from track to street oil. I dont plan to drive my car on the street very often, so I was wondering if anyone is using an oil different than what the manual calls for that can be used for both street and track ?

I believe track oil weight is recommended at 20w50... Street is 5w30...

The 20w50 is to protect at high oil temps found on the track, but not on the street.

No real compromise oils out there that I am aware of.

BUT after a track day, depending on how long you are out there, I would want to be changing the oil again anyway.

Mobil one has come up with an ESP formula 0W40 oil that will be work on the street and the track. It’s going to be standard in the 2019 Corvettes. I think it will become the standard oil soon. It’s s different spec than the European 0W40.

I am leaving the recommended 15w50 oil in all the time. Internet research seems to point to the only downsides of this as slightly worse fuel economy and perhaps catalytic converter degradation over an extended period of time (years). I just make sure to let the car warm up prior to driving.

Thank you for the advice! Both options sound like great alternatives!

Shouldn't proper crankcase ventilation prevent both downsides?

EDIT:
With the boost this engine makes I'd imagine the crank case has considerable pressure, but none the less, might help to have a proper vacuum drawn evacuation system. Using exhaust and check valves to pull out the gasses would be proper.

It may sound silly, but my main concern is keeping the track warranty. So if they say a 15w50, that's what I will use.

I'm still in the break-in mileage period and have been researching oil already due to going to the track in mid april. The way I read the HPS or manual, was if you use the Mobil 1 15W-50 you had to change it back for the street, but no mention if you use say the valvoline 5W-40 MST which is what I'll probably run. On my two previous cars, I would change the oil right before an event, then keep it in the car till the next one which was 4-6 months then do it again. I had sent my oil off for analysis once to check out the oil condition/motor and the oil had plenty of life in it. So I don't see the point in flushing again after the track unless its Mobil.

I plan on running this for a HPDE, but it sounds like you can leave it in for the street unless you put the 15W-50 in. Valvoline SynPower Full Synthetic is now Dexos 2 approved.

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Valvoline...Quart/17130344

with FRAM XG10060

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

From the HP Supplement:

LS/LT 1LE, SS 1LE, and ZL1
Change the engine oil to 0W-40 or
5W-40 that meets the dexos2
specification. If this oil is not
available, the following oils can be
used as an alternative: Valvoline
SYNPOWER MST 5W-40 or
Mobil 1 15W-50. If 15W-50 is used,
the engine oil must be changed
after the track event.
For LS/LT 1LE, add 0.9 L (1.0 qt) of
oil over the nominal fill level for a
track event. After the competitive
driving, remove the excess oil so
that the level on the dipstick is not
above the upper mark that shows
the proper operating range.

During track usage, do not follow
the Engine Oil Life System status.
Change the engine oil after four
hours of accumulative track usage.
If 15W-50 oil is used, it must be
changed back to the engine oil
listed in the “Engine Oil” section of
the owner’s manual.
ZL1 1LE Only
Change the engine oil to Mobil
1 15W-50. Change the engine oil
after four hours of accumulative
track usage. After track usage, the
oil must be changed back to the
engine oil listed in the “Engine Oil”
section of the owner’s manual.

Glad Walmart is carrying it. My local one didn't have the 5W-40 but can get it within a couple of days.
