Lightweight bumper bar
I have for sale an aluminum rear bumper bar for the 5th gen Camaro. This bumper bar replaces the steel bumper bar and offers a 19lb weight reduction!!. This bumper was made by a professional machine shop. The bumper bar is for sale at $600.
I already have a set of aluminum bumper bars on my ride. I can also make ther front bumper bar from aluminum. The weight savings for the front bumper bar is 8lb. I am willing to make more if there is interest from the Camaro5 folks. Please PM me if interested. |

Remove your front and rear plastic bumper. Few bolts and your old ones come off. It's an easy swap.

I'm interested only if there is minimal impact on crash rating.

FEA modeling showed the aluminum bars are about 90% as strong if not better. There is a probably an equation out there for a curved beam. The aluminum is alittle thicker than the steel bar to improve strength.

That is pretty cool right there. I bet you will find a good bit of interest if the safety is not comprimised much (as you indicate is the case). Do you have any test results or stats to support the safety claim?

So here is a comparison of a rectangular tube 2.875 x 4.75 x 40in long. Supported at the ends and load in the center. One is steel .06 thick and the other aluminum .08 thick. To get near the yield point of the material the center load is actually higher on aluminum. Of course the deflection is higher on aluminum.
The calc was from this site. http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/be...on-d_1312.html |
