next generation ls4 with variable valvelift

What do you guys think about variable lift on the next ls hi performance engine? Could have the same idle as the ls3 but with the 70 or so additional hp of the big cam...im thinking something similar to the system of porsche, bmw valvetronic (countinually variable valve lift), or even more hi tech like the vvel of the 370z and g37? Nothing like the primitive 2 step lift of say a s2000, type r etc...
This technology is now considered simple and could at little cost give us a 500hp super ls3 and close to 600 super ls7?
I didnt mention variable valve timing as its mostly for fuel economy and already done on l99.

I would give up the varable valve lift FOR 4 valve per cylinder and/or direct fuel injection rather that port injection.

I'd like to see direct injection and variable valve timing. Obviously, any other goodies would make me happy, too. I'm excited to see the numbers and features of the next great GM engine.

4 valve heads would make this engine with 4 cam WAY more heavy...you dont want that...direct fuel...of course...variable valve timing ain t worth power....variable lift is what you want....
these 3 things together would make this engine a monster...or basicaly a c63 engine without DI

That's where I'm not happy. After seeing the gains on the LLT with DI, I really want to see a GM V8 pack the punch in a high-performance Camaro application. In the original CTS, the 3.6L V6 pulled 255 horsepower. Now, that number is 304 in the DI version posted in the Camaro. Of course, other improvements were made to the engine and tune, but we have to presume that these numbers will have even greater improvement with 2 more cylinder. If it doesn't have direct injection, it isn't good enough to be the next V8 from GM. That's my sticking point.

Actually gents.....The LS4 has been out for awhile now, since 2005, which makes it older than the LS3(2008). the LS4 is in FWD Grand Prix GXP's and the Impala/Monte Carlo SS models.

I'm not sure what the next Gen IV engine will be designated.

I'm not sure that there will be one. I'm pretty sure GM's next product will be Gen V.

The LS series was completed with the LS9. There will be no new LS engines.

The Gen V engines will have direct injection, possibly variable valve lift and timing.

They will come up with a new designation for them.

The engines will likely have a new naming series, probably "LU#", since the previous engines were LS and LT before it. The engines will most likely feature VVT similar to what is currently used on the L76 and L99, in addition to direct injection and active fuel management. There is a possibility that some may feature 3 valves per cylinder but not 4.

Following that logic the next series would be LR.

T comes after S which comes after R in the alphabet.
T came before S which could possibly come before R. Plus it would look wwaaayyy cooler to have an LR series so they could make all the "R's" red and look like the TypeR r's ha!
