How hard is the clutch in the zl1?
Hello all, (this is not intended as a pity post by any means, ill be fine)
i have been looking forward to driving my car for months. TPW is 2/19/2018, and i was told to anticipate a mid march delivery to my dealer. Unfortunately was hit by a car that turned into me while on my motorcycle a week and a half ago. So... thanks to a 19 year old that wasnt paying attention, i have a broken femur, tibia, and fibula on left leg... no weight bearing for 6-8 weeks. Id love to drive the car, and even use it as a physical therapy of sorts... but that will all be dependent on the harshness of the clutch and my healing ability. Just looking for general clutch impressions. I came from a fox mustang with a variety of clutches ranging from insanely stiff single plates to a comfortable dual disc hydraulic. Not related, just wanted to say please wear gear if your are riding. Im convinced i still have my foot because of my expensive boots. My gear (boots, jacket, helmet, gloves, spinal plate) was in the neighborhood of $4500, and after taking a direct hit to my left foot, flying through the air, and sliding on my back for 100 or so feet, i only sustained injuries due to the direct contact. |

Hope your recovery goes well and is uneventful. I have friend who lost his lower leg when a car turning left at a red light failed to yield to his motorcycle.
I would say the sensiitivity of the ZL1 clutch is in the medium range. It's not "spongy" nor is it real stiff. I know a lot people keep the clutch depressed and the car in gear at traffic lights. I've gotten in the habit of putting my car in neutral and taking my foot off the clutch when stopped. If you did that, it would take a lot of pressure of your leg and allow you to drive your car during your recovery period.

If you’re in a cast you should be OK using your upper leg or hip muscles.

Thank you all, that is very relieving to hear...
Sucks about your buddy... i got very lucky. Pegs were decently high, and the front of the altima was low. Guy was going the opposite direction in the left turn pocket, and turned left into my ankle. |

Concentrate on getting healthy the car will be there. If your car shipping process goes like mine you will be running by the time you get it. My zl1 1le has been sitting for over 3 weeks waiting to be shipped. Just be thankful your not hurt any worse.

It is extremely soft compared to a foxbody clutch. It is probably 1/3 - 1/2 of the pedal effort of a stock foxbody clutch.
I ended up with an A10. I test drove a M6 it felt like a 4 cylinder Honda clutch after driving my Cobra to the dealership (Mcleod Clutch). I'm not sure if your injuries prohibit a full range of motion, but that might be a concern. I would be more worried about getting in and out of the car.

The clutch is very easy to manage, if anything I thought the feel was a little muted due to the assist. In the end I went with the A10 but, that was a decision not reflective of the clutch (it's just quicker).
Hope you heal well. I've lost two friends over the years to inattentive drivers. After getting run off the road myself one day I decided I'd had enough and wasn't going to let some self absorbed twit kill me as well. Sold this beauty after nine years of riding. Still have the itch to build my own one day but for now I'm sticking to my iron cage. |

I agree with what's been said. It's surprisingly light, and not too much different from even an SS model. Compared to the 5th-gen clutch pedal (which I thought I liked at the time)...this is a whole different league of smoothness and "light"ness.
