You are thinking about the Projection icon on the home screen changing. There is no Projection option in Settings. It will show CarPlay and Android Auto if updated.

Guess I'll have to double check. That said, It is my understanding you don't get the projection icon without those - is that not correct? Learning great things on this forum.

All the 8" myLinks have CarPlay, so they all have the Projection icon.

Yes, the projection icon will show the correct icon when you connect your phone (Apple or Android) if the corresponding application is installed. I believe car play was always installed on the 6th gen from the factory but android auto was added later and needed to be installed by the dealer.

Anyway, what i was trying to say is you can check if your required application installed without having a phone by just checking the settings menu. It will show up in the settings menus something like this (this is a 7" screen).

Have you checked that in the 8" screen? I just don't remember seeing that in settings. I'll check tomorrow but I just don't remember those two options being there. It works I'm sure because I've used CarPlay in it before hooked up.

Yes, I have an 8" screen and that's how I realized I didn't have android auto. Settings only showed Car Play. Booked an appointment and the dealer installed it.
Here you go the 8" settings menu

Haha, I should hope so! Up until about April 2016 production month did they not come with it.

My Dealer has quoted me 49.95 to update. So there should not be a fee? Thanks in advance

Maybe if it was out of warranty i can see them trying to make a buck but dam, on a brand new car they want to charge a fee at some dealers LOL. When i asked my dealer a few months back they told me next time i bring it in they will update no charge.

I would think everything built after the update rolled out should already have the update. So unless your car is a 2016 built before around March of last year.... You should already have the latest firmware.

It's a free installation. If your car came without Android auto the dealer has to install it for free.
