2nd Cat delete. New tune? AWE cat back?

done some research, yet couldn't come up with anything solid.
- So. I'm looking at the AWE catback touring - Resinated. but flirting with the idea of deleting the 2ndary cat. 1) will this require a new tune? 2) just how much louder is this vs not going that route.

If your car is an auto doing a catback will throw a code for the AFM valves. Deleting the secondary cats will not throw a code as they are not monitored. I can't comment on how much louder no secondary cats would be but the AWE is pretty loud, it is what I have on mine.

I removed my secondary cats with no additional exhaust changes. Virtually no difference in volume.

What about Emissions Testing

I live in a county (Gwinnett GA) that requires annual emissions testing. Do any of you know if deleting the secondary cats cause a vehicle to fail these tests?

I had no secondary cats with stock npp, it crackles slot more but not much louder, the loudness has more to do with your mufflers.

I kept NPP and did cutouts before the muffler, that way I can go back to quiet because loud can get annoying.

I live in Walton County next door and worked for Gwinnett County government for 25 years. Howdy neighbor. No, removing the secondary cats will not cause you to fail.

Hi oneredry,

You have a 2SS that is supercharged?

I went with Borla's 60606 midpipe/x-pipe that deletes the 2nd cat and kept my stock NPP.

It provides relief from the infamous pinched (see crush delete in the thread search) exhaust both in the X-pipe and at the rear of the exhaust just in front of the NPP. With no other changes, IMHO, I observed a 20% increase in sound in Track mode and the sound is still "cringe worthy" in Stealth on an early A.M. start up.

There will likely be a flood of righteous indignation about how the crush pipe does not interfere with flow- but it does make more noise without it.

The car ran very well without any tune updates. Keep in mind you live in a part of Ohio with a wide variation in the amount of concern over emissions and different interpretations of current Federal standards. You may want to see how it sounds with just the AWE catback.

I didn't break down and get a tune until after the addition of a CAI and the MSD intake manifold with a 95mm throttle body. Then I contacted Steve at the JDPstore.com for a BDX tuner and custom tune. All has been well throughout. Good luck and have fun!

If you're not going with long tube headers I would delete them. They are just an extra piece of restriction you don't need. You will most likely need to tune out the afm valves or you'll get a code.

I have the AWE Touring Non-Resonated, and it is loud.
However, I like loud and it's loudness will be present at start up of course, and when you step on it.
When cruising it is not that bad, maybe a tad louder than OEM...or I'm used to it!
I do however, have long tubes and 2nd cat delete.
When I go WOT it has a lot more rasp, so if you do not like the raspy sound, AWE may not be the way to go...or at least get it resonated, which helps with less rasp.

My co-worker who owns a 15' Mustang GT Prem. wanted to hear it, and asked me to step on it while parked. He was surprised and said "it sounds Angry, like it wants to eat a Mustang"...I humbly said that is possible.
My other co-worker who owns a Challenger SCAT Pack and has the Borla Atak on it was also surprised and said it sounds like his however, another person said no, no...this one is much louder than your Borla.
