Random observation

The V6 camaro redlines at 6400 RPM, and the RPM gauge displays up to 8000 RPM

The SS redlines at 5900 RPM, 500 less than the V6, but the RPM gauge displays up to 9000 RPM.

Its just seems they got them backwards. I wonder why its like that.

I'm pretty sure the 6 redlines at 7. Could be wrong. Car has been in the shop for a couple weeks so I may be thinking wrong

Really by the time you get to redline you are losing power i believe. I think the peak is probably around 5-5500 RPM for power, atleast for the V6. The higher RPMs do mean less of a bog though when you shift up though but for the quarter your only going probably be in 3rd by the end anyways.

I believe the OP is talking about the gauge showing more RPMs than possible, but the V8 exaggerates more than the V6 does.

It's to make the V-8 guys feel even better about themselves. Funny thing is, it would be easier to build the V-6 to run at 9,000 rpms than the V-8. A V-8 build to run those kind of rpms would be very costly.

Why would we need to feel better about ourselves? We have the V8....

This^

And the V8 speedo goes to 180 rather than 160. I wonder which one will come closer to that max speed?

Neither! Both are capped at 155mph...so there.

[Yes, I know you can have it removed with a custom tune.]

Funny thing is, the V6 with the RS package (20" PZeros) would be just fine at 155MPH. Its the other tires that have lower speed ratings which cause the limit to be set at 115MPH (or whatever).

I guess if you order the 20" wheels on your V6, the tune isn't changed, but should be to allow 155MPH.

I'd love to see a video of someone doing 180 in their car... and then the news article of the rollover accident aftermath. Anything more than 150 is irrelevant and even that's ridiculous for any driving you or I might be doing.
