2020 camaro lt1 vs camaro ss
Has anyone with an ss raced an LT1 or an LT1 raced an ss, I am wondering if there is any power difference between the two.

Power difference? No, it's the same exact powertrain.

The SS has 275's on the rear vs. 245's on the LT1, so might hook a little better... Other than that, same drivetrain...

Same drivetrain. LT1 has slight weight advantage. SS has slight tire advantage.

No, they are going to have relatively similar performance figures.

Same power but lighter. Which is also to say faster. My 2020 loaded m6 LT1 is 1 to 2 tenths faster than my 2016 Loaded M6 2SS.
Here are the differences between the SS and the LT1: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=577077

GVWR minus PAYLOAD equals Curb weight (this assumes full tank of gas, all fluids topped off and you put nothing extra in or on the vehicle - or taken anything off) Don't get me started again! Last edited by FarmerFran; 02-04-2021 at 03:20 PM. |

Tiers and weight are the only changes in a race. So the 245's may not grip as well as a SS but then the SS weighs more. So be a close race.

That’s one that would definitely come down to the driver, more so if both cars were manual.

The weight advantage of the LT1 is 66 lbs to the 1SS and 76 lbs to the 2SS, which, given that the powertrain is the same, gives it an advantage of 0.6 tenths and 0.7 tenths in a quarter mile, respectively (assuming both are stock, drivers weigh the same and all else is identical, of course).
However, the LT1 is tangibly undertired for its power with 245 width all-season rear tires and a 15% smaller contact patch (43.5 sq in vs 50.1 sq in) vs the 1SS or 2SS, so it's more difficult to launch. If after this the LT1 guys still claim their car consistently beat an SS, let them have the imaginary upper hand.

Overall the changes are so minuscule it's really a drivers race and tire type. If I won a free car and was given the choice of an LT1 or 2SS of course I'd take the 2SS. The butt Dyno isn't going to notice a difference in one tenth of a second. I will say for the people buying the LT1 for price it's good to shop around hard. If there are good chevy and dealer rebates it's actually better to buy the 1SS over the LT1. Last sept when I was looking there was a dealer with FOUR 2020 1SS, NPP, auto left over. With the Chevy rebate and dealer rebated the cost came out to about only 1.5k more than most of the Lt1s I saw online. MSRP for this LT1 almost 39k! The extra costs of the SS models are slightly hidden - lack of square tire setup, summer tires, etc. That will cost more long-run. Granted, adding 275s up front is probably cheaper than adding 275s all around, but the all weathers are definitely preferable if you don't track the car and its your daily. All about situation and expectation, the LT1 was - for me - a better choice all around, cheaper and had the exact options I wanted.
